You would definitely not want either one visible prior to an incident. It would be like putting a bulls eye on your forehead. I like the idea of the clip on/chain badge at lot. It’s a shame states do not provide guidance and a way for a concealed carry individual to be immediately identified visually. Of course they would then claim anyone could duplicate the ID and it would cause more harm than good. Like anyone can’t fake an officers badge to avoid initial confrontation.
It can’t hurt, and might help, so it seems like “not a bad idiea” to me.
What worries me is that after they’re used a few times, or become popularized by advertising, crooks may start using them, or NON-carry permit holders.
All you need is one or two incidents nationwide where the actual perp is wearing one of these, a cop hesitates because of it, and dies. Then every police dept in the country will tell its members “disregard a badge you don’t recognize.” Then, of course, you may end up having cops killing FBI or other law enforcement officers a couple times, and they’ll prohibit the sale of such badges altogether.
Possible solution:
1. Do NOT heavily advertise these. Rely on word of mouth or use subtle ads or get permission from local gov’t offices where firearms permits etc are issued, to put up a small sign advertising them, or pay them to include a small card with an ad when mailing carry permits to holders of permits. The point is to narrow your “target audience” for ads so as to exclude, as far as possible, their being seen by non permit holders.
2. IN the meanwhile, you should require a photo copy of a carry permit to be sent to you or shown to other sellers of your badges to prevent or minimize the possibility of a non-holder obtaining one. That will eliminate or vastly reduce the possibliity of one coming into the hands of someone who si not a legalized carrier of a firearm and cause law enforcement officials to pay heed to them, esp. if something like suggestion 1. above is adopted.
There are no guarantees when you are in a firefight. You just do your best to put the odds in your favor. Hence the above suggestions.
Here’s a thought: Either instead of a badge OR IN ADDITION to it: Make a small velcro armband with lots of velcro so it’ll fit around your bare arm OR a heavy jacket’s sleeve. Maybe 3 or 4″ wide. Something distinctive — come up with a distinctive background pattern like a blue band with white stripes on it at an angle and maybe a FEW reflective red dots here and there on it. Natch, even more so than the badge, there may not always be time to put it on or to put it on BOTH arms, or to put it flat across your chest or back. This has the disadvantage that it might mark your location or single you out as a target for the perp, but so does the badge. You still have to decide whether informing your opponent where you are is more or less important than informing the people on your side who you are..
What are you two nuts? So you want to “create” a badge for those occasions when you can whip it out to assist the police. You want to create a badge to wear around your neck. You want to create a badge and ID to have on you to whip out “in case of an emergence” or when asked for an CCW ID. You have an ID! It has your picture on it. How many times has a CCW holder assisted the police so far? Can you count them on your hand? If you give people badges the next thing you know some CCW person is going to walk up to a cop during a traffic stop to see if they can help just so they can show off their badge. Haven’t you been watching what these cops are turning into with their black ops gear? A CCW weapon is just that CONCEALED CARRY WEAPON!!!!! I don’t want anyone to know I carry a weapon, that’s the point of it. It’s a surprise! I don’t want a badge. I don’t want to redesign the system so the powers that be can go over every ones records and create a whole new system. Your looking for trouble by proposing such a thing. Go back down into your basement and sit around sketching about how to do something constructive like how to preserve salt.
Don’t open a can of worms unless your willing to eat all the worms by your self.
Do you know how to disagree with anyone without calling them nuts and insulting them? Do you have to make it personal? Liberals act like that.
My question is, “what are you guys nuts?” not “you guys are nuts”. The difference is one is name calling and the other is a question. Note the question mark at the end of my sentence. I am far from liberal. As far as making it personal you seem to be jumping at me like a liberal would. Are you a liberal? “Are you a liberal?,” is a question. It is not a statement saying you are one. All to often people today ask a question and get accused of making a statement or calling someone a name. An example of that is, “what are you some kind of idiot”? People might say hey, you called me an idiot. We have to learn to watch those punctuation marks again like we were taught in grammar school. So the question remains, are they nuts for proposing such an idea of requiring CCW permitted personal to have a badge in order to carry a concealed weapon? Doesn’t that change the whole picture? More crap to carry on our persons. More government to list our names again for another reason. I’m sure the Feds would get involved. Will all states comply with this? How much will these “badges” cost us? Again I ask, “what are you guys nuts”?
What are you an idiot?
No, I am not an idiot.
You are getting off of the subject matter which is a typical liberal trick, distraction.
Be careful your at the deep end of the pool and I doubt you know how to swim.
So, answer the question. Would these Badges be a good thing or not.
I still say, “Badges, badges? We don’t need no stinken badges”.
If you imply it with the question then the idea is in your mind that you think they are. Same difference.
There you go again with the insults. I answered the question in my first comment. You sir, started the distraction to begin with by your snippy comments. I spent 20 years in the Navy so I guess I do know how to swim. Though at my age not quite as far as I once could.
