I know there are Christians who believe they are without sin. There are hypocrites. There are evangelists who take advantage of the gullible. I know these people exist and exhibit their Christianity as some form of personal advantage. That is not the Christianity of Christ. That is the same as government officials who claim to represent America. It is a fraud.
Christianity appeals to me, because I am flawed; because I need work. Christians, for the most part, are the humble; the sinners who seek to be better; to draw strength from their faith to overcome their human weaknesses. I know that without Christ, I am a much worse person. I work every day to keep that other T.L. in check and a belief in God and Christ help me to do that. When my inner anger and hostility seek vent, I ask if that is really the sort of reaction I want God to see.
So, having said that, the link between our founders and the Christian faith cannot be denied. I believe that it was with Christian humility that they formed a government that did not place one single man at the head of government. Yes, they were drafting a charter to distance themselves from a monarch, but also, humility must have played a part. Somewhere, our greatest minds did not seek to rule over us themselves. Out of a million different forms of government, they chose one which shared the power across a spectrum to give every soul a voice.
While our form of government seems best in comparison to others in the past 500 years, Scripture points to another times that far exceeded our form of government.
Dan 2:37
“You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory;
Dan 2:38
“and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all—you are this head of gold.
Dan 2:39
“But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.
Dan 2:40
“And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others.
Dan 2:41
“Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay.
Dan 2:42
“And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.
Dan 2:43
“As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.
Dan 2:44
“And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
It seems we live in the time of the most inferior type of government where “iron does not mix with clay.” Where many men fight one another to lead a nation. According to Scripture, Nebuchadnezzar was the “king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory.” A lone supreme monarch, is God’s chosen earthly form of government. And this type of government will be established once again, when Christ descends to His throne on earth in the 1000 year reign.
