The Nord Stream Pipeline Repair Dilemma

The Nord Stream Pipelines attack may end up being an environmental disaster to equal the Fukushima disaster, with the release of millions of cubic metres of methane-gas into the environment, from the attack and in an attempt to save the pipelines.

It has been reported that the Russians are having to maintain gas-flow through the Russian end of the pipelines to prevent seawater entering and starting a process that, once started, never ends – rusting. Rust never sleeps once it has started.

So, unless they have a tool for removing and killing the rust, they have two options:

  1. Keep pumping gas through the pipelines and thus damage the marine life and the environment with massive amounts of released methane.
  2. Abandon the pipelines as being scrap, after costing billions to build, and laying new ones, that evil lunatics could also destroy.

I say shut it down and let happen what happens. If We will not correct our issues, maybe someone else will.

Not that much of an “environmental” issue really. While methane is an *actual* “hot house gas” (unlike CO2), it decays quickly. This release is a tiny fraction of the methane released in every volcanic eruption.

Rust requires oxygen. After the pipe is repaired and purged of water, packed back up with methane, there is not enough O2 to allow internal rust to happen. I’m flabbergasted the amount of bullshit about this whole pipeline issue from end to end on the ‘reporting’.

And yes, I know of which I speak, been doing large high pressure interstate pipeline operations for twenty years. I wear boots to work.

Ohhhh please, stop it with the methane hurting the environment bs. One volcanic eruption puts more methane and other toxic gases in the air than any pipe line ever could. And that’s just one eruption let alone a continuous eruption. Man and nature is still here. Quick, how many volcanoes are in active mode right now above water? How many underwater?

Just flare it when it bubbles to the surface.

And Germany is under contract to Russia. Germany is required to pay for the gas they ordered, even if they don’t get the gas. Probably end up in court. Or war.
