Hey SP, I live in the pacific north west, Fox’s are the main problem for me out here. Racoons are present but around here it’s grey fox’s that have the highest kill rate with our chickens. I grew up on a ranch on the coast or close to it, about six miles inland. Bobcats were the problem there. What was happening was the bobcat would shred the chickens and pull chickens/ducks through the wire.
One day my Dad ran a microphone from the coup to the house, about maybe 80 feet into the stereo amp. About 3am it sounded like someone was in the kitchen throwing pots and pans all over the place. Well we all got up pronto! Word of advice…While grabbing a handful of shotgun shells for your 12ga, make sure they’re not 16ga. Dad was was cursing by now, being self reliant then as I am now, I had grabbed my trusty 20ga. I was twelve and I had just shot my first bobcat with 6 shot 3in mag’s. Someday I’ll tell you the story about the bears, the garbage and my bear alarm!

Hey SP. I understand what you are saying. We have lost chickens to raccoon’s and skunks. My method is to use a live trap and then shoot them. I have used leg traps in the past but we now have 3 cats. (They came with the grandkids.)
