On this week’s, Fox News with Chris Wallace, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner aggressively revealed a damming truth while laying out his case for raising America’s debt ceiling.
Geithner, on the defensive (seems like he has been since he was plucked from the NY Fed to run Treasury by Obama), and I’m paraphrasing just a bit here, said:
“…This is a great nation, with all the resources of this great nation, we have 1 of every 8 Americans on food stamps, and 40% of those born in America today are born into families on Medicaid.”
This was said in passionate defense of what Obama wants, in passionate defense of the way the Left has run and wants to run the country. The statement the Treasury Secretary uttered is a sad truth, and a complete indictment of the Left and the policies that have been put forth for most of the past 50 years.
Of course, the Secretary is correct, and rather than wear it as a badge of honor as Geithner did in advocacy for more of the same, we should all be ashamed, embarrassed, and ready to reverse that horrible truth. The Left (with the help from many a Republican) has built a massive dependency class. Affirmative action, welfare, mass low skilled immigration, failing public education, failed trade policy, single parent households, are mostly all at the feet of those who place themselves on the left side of the political spectrum.
The evidence is building. I urge all Democrats (and moderate Republicans and RINOs), and those dependent on government, open your eyes, push back the blinders, see the truth of what left leaning policies have wrought in America. Need more, look to Detroit for more truth.
NOTE: As of this writing, House Leader Boehner has revealed another plan to tackle our debt and deficits problem. It should be dismissed instantly for one reason. The Speaker of the House, 20 years in elected office, is calling for the formation of yet another commission to direct the debate and provide solutions for our indebtedness problem. NO! We elected 535 of our fellow Americans to so this job. Isn’t it clear by now, commissions are formed to protect incumbents come re-election time, their reports are shelved shortly after the media tour ends, and we go on about our business. We just had the Simpson/Bowles Commission last year. If any Freshman Republican supports the Boehner plan, they should be challenged in their home district primary race come 2012.

I reacted to quickly Sunday to Speaker Boehner’s proposal for yet another commission. I assumed he had more of the same in mind. Not so it turns out. Kudos to Speaker Boehner, last night after Obama he described the commission he has in mind in his most recent plan: no outsiders, just Dems and Repubs from the Congress doing the job they are paid to do. Refreshing. I can support that.
The only thing that I am sure about the current debt ceiling crisis is that Congress and the President failed the American people. As Frank points out, the plans and details were (and are) moving targets. The latest plan to make a commission comprised of senators and representatives may be a good idea. Will this work? Can you say Simpson Bowles Commission.

Article I, Section 7
All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.
Based on the above section of the Constitution, the House is responsible for raising Revenue. Although I think this means what it says and should by extension by applied to cutting Revenue, Mr. Boehner feels otherwise. But that is not the point: they need to cut $4 trillion in verifiable cuts by the end of this week if S&P’s warning is real. I don’t care about the debt ceiling, the scare tactics concerning default or the plan du jour. If the credit rating is lowered, America will see consequences immediately.
Now for those who are criticizing me for criticizing Republicans, I have a question. Why was this debt ceiling not addressed in May when we ran out of money? Why is everyone giving Congress a pass on extending this “crisis” by spending the entire federal employee pension plan? So now the deadline was extended, the money spent and where are we?
