I don’t see the problem.
Perhaps it’s time we re-assessed our personal situations and changed our priorities from “wants” to “needs.
Is there anything in China that is of such value that the world would forego safety for trinkets and bobbles? Nuts!
If you live “inside” a warm house, have heat, food, medicine, clothing and, above all, healthy family to surround ourselves with, how will shiny trinkets improve it?
Face it, folks; we’re spoiled rotten and consistently want for more. When is “enough” enough?
How about we lighten up and take stock in what we already have and thank the Almighty for it…

The only thing I see wrong about your thoughts is medication. Many raw materials for medications come from China. Too many people are on too many pills, for sure. But those who depend on life saving medications may be hurting soon. Agree with all your other assessments. God bless.

I completely understand what you’re saying, and agree, to an extent.
But here, again, if we’re not willing to let our military security rest in the hands of foreigners, why, then, would we allow our health?
There’s nothing on this planet that we “need” that can’t be found here, under our own two feet.
Granted, our industries have been shipped over-seas for the benefit of the almighty dollar, but at what risk? I think we’re seeing this “risk”, now.
Security, whether military or health, is based on independence and self-reliance.

Unfortunately many many drugs come from China, the US was disassembled. Trump just started the repatriation of our manufacturing. We will soon see by what is unavailable how much was made in China. More than trinkets I can assure you.

I think all surgical masks are made in China. You know, the kind they wear to try to keep from getting the virus? Go and try to find a supplier on Amazon or anywhere that will sell you a surgical mask and guarantee delivery. They may sell it to you at an astronomical price knowing damn well that they don’t have it may never get it.

All the “cheap ones”, that is.
But if you look at the packaging at your local Lowe’s or Home Depot, “3M” stands out. That’s “Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing” Co.
Even so, and as the Surgeon General has stated, it’s only those already infected that need to wear them to stop the spread of this illness and not for prevention. Had the latter been the case, they’d be advising people procure “gas masks” AND quarantine.
And another issue: this is NOT a “disease”, it’s a VIRUS, just like the flu and just as serious.

Hadenoughalready,

Wake up !

10,000 American factories have closed since 2000. Millions of factory/factory-related jobs have disappeared. Why ? Because of Bill Clinton and the Republican-controlled 106th CON-gress passing PNTR with the Communist Chinese.

Your argument about name labels on products you buy indicating “Made in USA”, is pure ignorance. Those American companies shifted their production from USA to Red China. The American companies, in the thousands, retained their well-known name on the packaging, while shifting production to Red China using ChiCom slave labor !

Tell me, us, how is it the USA trade deficit with the. Chicoms is more than $4,000,000,000,000 ? ! ? !

After American taxpayers bailed out GM and FORD in the 2008 financial debacle, both “USA” companies moved production offshore. GM to the Chicom mainland and FORD to Mexico.

More than 53% of working age Americans work in some level of government….localgov, stategov or fedgov ! In fact my money is on YOU being an aristocratic, government employee, eh ?

ERWACHE !

Thank you for your edifying information. And NO, I’m neither an employee of any government nor an aristocrat.
I’m just an unpaid, lowly civil servant who, like many others, only sees what they see, daily.
Ich erwache, danke!

Bill,

Do your research Bill….you’re correct. No ONE bailed out FORD. It was a collective effort thru the fed’s General Services Administration commonly known as “GSA”, using YOUR tax dollars to bail out Ford.

Rather than do an electronic transfer of taxpayer dollars direct to Ford, the GSA bought 24,000 Ford vehicles ! Those Ford vehicles and thus Ford Motor Company, being embraced (bailed out) by GSA with the unheard of, and largest, single GSA purchase of same brand vehicles in the history of the fedgov’s General Services Administration ! Ford ! F-O-R-D. Yep, 24,000 Fords at the same time the Treasury with our tax dollars, was also bailing out General Motors and the long time loser known as Chrysler (as you pointed out).

Ford Mofor Company was saved by the taxpayer. Bailed out by us taxpayers. The exchange of tax dollars to Ford just done differently. Nevertheless, a BAILOUT ! BTW….Ford subsequently building manufacturing facilities in Mexico. So much for loyalty to the citizens and nation that made Ford Motor Company the industrial giant it became. Just keep bending over and grabbing your ankles, courtesy of the U.S. federal government.

Now today in the FUSA you’ll see more Korean built Hyundais and Kias sporting General Services Administration license plates than any other brand. What’s up with that Bill ?

ERWACHE Bill.

Let’s get back to the fundamentals. There are many mechanical things I would rather not do without on my farm -- chainsaw and spare chains, working ATV, small tractor and a few implements. But I have the ability to use these things less, and therefore the ones I have can last much longer. I have cattle who ought to be working as oxen instead of using the tractor. The grass to feed oxen regenerates itself. Most of what I need to carry on hill farming is either made in USA, or used to be made in USA and could be made here again. Most people that live in suburbs could grow half their own food on their property.

If this virus puts the US on a wartime footing, and forces people to become more self sufficient, that would be a silver lining to this cloud.

Very well said, Mary!
As I said, a re-assessment of our values and a honing of our once-vibrant skills is in order.
Perhaps this will bring about a push to return vocational skills training in our schools. Many people benefited from these before. They will again.

I do agree there is a silver lining, pun intended, as also there is a good chance of cash money runs on banks coming a la the Cyprus crisis years ago. Cash Liquidity is drying up due to dropping commerce.
CYA, not much Pre left in prepare imo.

Wants verses needs. You hit the nail on the head.
We have become spoiled and many think ‘we deserve’ everything. This seems to be part of the Pride warning.
