They have been relying on sales of toxic swill from bigPharma, and nobody is stupid enough to keep getting the jab.

CVS had also badly overbuilt some years ago as they expanded into markets that were already saturated by competitors like Walgreens (such as in my own fair city). The result is that they first stopped 24 hour operation at many locations (COVID contributed to this also) and of late have been closing underperforming stores in some markets, my own included. I’m aware of at least 3 local CVS closed within the last year, the most recent being 2 weeks ago. They are still packing up that stores contents and fixtures as of last week, though all signing had already been removed.

Walgreens has also closed some stores here, and I expect to see many more closed simply because they can’t all remain profitable in this economy. The stores in “challenging” locales will be first to get nixed (just as seen in California) but the more suburban locations will not be immune.

The recently shuttered CVS here was as suburban as it gets, and couldn’t make money even without rampant shoplifting being an issue. There is a Walgreens 2 blocks up the street from it, unsurprisingly. They built out way too many stores in the gravy days of 10-15 years ago, and now that over expansion is going to come back out, as business is off.
