Those pushing for the so-called “convention of states” 1 say we must amend the Constitution because the people in Washington “don’t understand it”.
Rubbish!
Our Constitution is so simple that Alexander Hamilton expected us to be “enlightened enough to distinguish between a legal exercise and an illegal usurpation of authority”; and he said the people are “the natural guardians of the Constitution” (Federalist No. 16, next to last para).
Well then, if our Constitution is something The People are expected to know and enforce; is it plausible to assert that the Representatives we send to Washington – and even supreme Court Justices – are incapable of understanding it?
Justices on the supreme Court have been perverting our Constitution for a long time. Do they do this because they are so stupid they don’t understand our Constitution? Of course not! They violate our Constitution because they claim the right to impose their own personal views on the rest of us.
As every American over the age of 10 should know, the powers our federal Constitution delegates to Congress and the President are limited & defined – they are “enumerated”.
Proponents of “change” to the US Constitution have been around since before the reign of FDR. Rexford Tugwell, of FDR’s New Deal advisors, published a road map in 1974: “The Emerging Constitution”.
According to an enthusiastic reviewer on amazon.com, “Tugwell proposed a UNITARY national governmental structure, including GUN CONTROL, and a disarmed populace. Tugwell favored the a “United States Police Force” to handle ALL local crime, thus over-riding the powers of local State, County, and City police forces.”
“The Emerging Constitution” includes a draft “Constitution For The NewStates of America”. This new constitution is available at http://www.sweetliberty.org/issues/concon/newstates.htm#.VCAgiXhIbxg.
Of particular note to lovers of Liberty and Private Property are the following entries in Article 1 of the proposed constitution …
A Rights:
Section 10.Those who cannot contribute to productivity shall be entitled to a share of the national product; but distribution shall be fair and the total may not exceed the amount for this purpose held in the National Sharing Fund.
B Responsibilities:
Section 6. Each shall pay whatever share of governmental costs is consistent with fairness to all.
Section 8. There shall be a responsibility to avoid violence and to keep the peace; for this reason the bearing of arms or the possession of lethal weapons shall be confined to the police, members of the armed forces, and those licensed under law.

a convention of the states would not be to clarify the constitution. it would be a majority of the states forcing the federal govt. to abide by it. it would be “we the people” letting the feds know this is the final stage before outright rebellion. my personal suspicion is that when such a convention is called, the northeastern tier of states would this time leave the union.
” it would be a majority of the states forcing the federal govt. to abide “

“letting the feds know this is the final stage before outright rebellion.”
I read all of what you wrote. I didn’t miss your comment regarding rebellion.
Given the consolidation of Federal power over the States circa 1966, I find your hypothesis quite silly … hence ROFLMAO.
We as individuals may eventually rise up against our masters, but the majority of States will continue to suckle upon the teat of the Federal tax farmers.
… with the futile hope to get more than is taken.
