His supposed audience is them who have no ties to military service; no family members who served, no remembrances of a country.

His words betray his perception that he holds an authoritative place above us. His only recognition that he acted ‘out of place’ is an acknowledgement -- actually a plead for forgiveness -- that he wore the uniform while acting as an individual.

So, who is this implied audience? Is it the socialists, the pantifa, the social justice warrior, the fellow traveler? Is it the Archie Bunkeresque dyed in the wool, living on borrowed time* combat veteran and family thereof?

Nay nay. It is the self-serving SES to whom he is apologetic. This milquetoast Milly knows who butters his bread. His career lives and dies to the snap of the fingers of the ethreal class who has writ law to gain their privileged ground.

*combat veterans who survived without injury while witnessing their comrades fall to the stab of the enemy have said about themselves that they live on borrowed time. The corollary is they should be dead already. If that doesn’t tear yoyr gut I don’t know what will. And they appear so nonchalant about it. Pray they know the peace and comfort if God.
