Egypt to Receive F-16s
The State Department has refused to cancel or delay the delivery of several American-made F-16 fighter jets to Egypt, claiming that the arms deal serves America’s “regional security interests,” according to an official State Department document obtained by the Free Beacon.
The news that the Obama administration would uphold an aid package to Egypt that included the military hardware prompted concern on Capitol Hill from lawmakers who said the deal was not prudent given the political situation in Egypt, where Muslim Brotherhood-backed President Mohammed Morsi has clashed with democratic protestors.
“Sixteen F-16s and 200 Abrams tanks are to be given to the Egyptian government before the end of the year under a foreign aid deal signed in 2010 with then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak,” Fox News reported Tuesday.
“President Morsi has failed to promote promised democracy in his country and neglected to continue Egypt’s legacy of maintaining peace in the region,” said Senator James Inhofe (R., Okla.). “I am alarmed and disappointed in the Obama Administration’s decision to decline my request to delay delivery of F-16s for further consideration.”
don’t believe the F-16s will have the top of the line avionics package installed. that means they will be just average fighters, compared to the rest of the world’s fighters. and without a world class pilot, they will be only an average threat to the israil or U.S. air force…are there any world class pilots in the muslim brotherhood?? i think not.
the M-1 tank….depending on which version they get… can be a tough nut…if they have the jet power plant, they can pass anything on the battlefield..except the fuel truck,… they are thirsty beasts. i worked on the M-1 for my 6 year stint in the army..they are tough, but, again, without a well trained and disciplined crew, they are no better than any other tank on the battlefield…
and if we have hidden “blackbox kill switches” in them, they are no threat because we can turn the engines off at will.
Are you telling me that we sold the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood less than top of the line tanks and jets so that we can make money? Or is this part of our “foreign aid” program? Then again, any aircraft can become a missile as we saw on 9/11.
I wonder what PM Netanyahu thinks about this “deal”?
The madness of this US President and US Congress needs to stop now!!! Why are we arming countries in the world that are not our allies and wish to kill Americans on one hand, and trying to disarm law-abiding American citizens and take away our God-given, Constitutional 2nd Amendment right to bear arms???
