Why Are We Funding Nazis in Ukraine?

From The Guardian 2014:

“I have nothing against Russian nationalists, or a great Russia,” said Dmitry, as we sped through the dark Mariupol night in a pickup truck, a machine gunner positioned in the back. “But Putin’s not even a Russian. Putin’s a Jew.”

Dmitry – which he said is not his real name – is a native of east Ukraine and a member of the Azov battalion, a volunteer grouping that has been doing much of the frontline fighting in Ukraine’s war with pro-Russia separatists. The Azov, one of many volunteer brigades to fight alongside the Ukrainian army in the east of the country, has developed a reputation for fearlessness in battle.

But there is an increasing worry that while the Azov and other volunteer battalions might be Ukraine’s most potent and reliable force on the battlefield against the separatists, they also pose the most serious threat to the Ukrainian government, and perhaps even the state, when the conflict in the east is over. The Azov causes particular concern due to the far right, even neo-Nazi, leanings of many of its members.

From Reuters 2018:

Many of the National Militia’s members come from the Azov movement, one of the 30-odd privately-funded “volunteer battalions” that, in the early days of the war, helped the regular army to defend Ukrainian territory against Russia’s separatist proxies. Although Azov uses Nazi-era symbolism and recruits neo-Nazis into its ranks, a recent article in Foreign Affairs downplayed any risks the group might pose, pointing out that, like other volunteer militias, Azov has been “reined in” through its integration into Ukraine’s armed forces. While it’s true that private militias no longer rule the battlefront, it’s the home front that Kiev needs to worry about now.

From Geohistory 2021:

To add to the problematic neo-nazism present in the group, Azov’s symbol is highly similar in appearance to the Nazi Wolfsangel; however, the group denies such claims and says it is an amalgam of “N” and “I” representing “national idea” (Miller, 2018). Although the group denies connections to neo-nazis, Azov itself formed from two neo-nazi groups. Individual members of Azov have openly acknowledged being neo-nazis, and the fondness the group has for symbols, salutes, and swastikas that can be called, at least, “nazi-reminiscent” are telling of their anti-Semitic beliefs

From Newsweek 2022:

NATO Says It Didn’t Notice Ukraine Soldier’s Apparent Nazi Symbol in Tweet

The first of the four images included what appeared to be a Ukrainian servicemember bearing a “Black Sun” on the chest area of her military fatigues. The symbol, also known in German as “Schwarze Sonne” or “Sonnenrad,” is rooted in Nazi occultism and has been brandished by far-right elements across the globe, including in Ukraine, where it is featured on the official logo of the National Guard’s Azov Regiment.

The image first appeared to be shared on social media on February 14 by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was later syndicated by a number of outlets and agencies, and was featured prominently on the front page of The Guardian the following day. The symbol itself, however, is not readily visible, as it is nearly the same color as the green camouflage of the soldier’s uniform.

Shortly after NATO shared the image, the symbol was noted by a number of social media users and then taken down swiftly.

Nazi Tattoo symbols on Azov Soldiers that surrendered in Azovstal Compilation

From YouTube:

The surrender process took 3 days for all 2,500 Ukrainian Soldiers to exit Azovstal. Many of these soldiers are part of Azov Regiment, a Neo-Nazi Group. Between 2014 – 2016, Western Media did not deny their Nazi roots and affiliation. Since Hunter-Biden though, and especially after Russia’s invasion, the Mainstream Media has been hard at work to whitewash Azov, calling them Heroes and Freedom Fighters.

Some of the evidence that shows Nazi symbols in Ukraine is a stretch. You can decide if the US is funding Nazism and Azov. I do know that Google is suppressing searches of Nazis in Ukraine.

Consider this:

While provision of U.S. security assistance to other countries is of course guided by the Executive branch’s foreign policy and national security objectives, Congress also enacts laws that direct assistance in certain ways and aim to ensure such assistance is not used for purposes that Congress deems unfit. With respect to Ukraine in particular, Congress has tried to create safeguards to prevent U.S. security assistance from going to recipients that have concerning reputations. For example, in the recently passed Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2022, Congress prohibited the use of funds appropriated under the act from being used to provide arms, training or other assistance to Ukraine’s Azov Battalion, a National Guard unit with a history of far right-wing ties.

and this:

Rights violations

Different human rights bodies, including the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Amnesty International, have accused Azov fighters, along with those form other volunteer battalions, of human rights violations, including torture, kidnappings, and extra-judicial executions. Over the years, the U.S. stance on the Azov has swung between proscription (driven by acknowledgement of its neo-Nazi politics) and sly collaboration (on the grounds of geopolitical pragmatism). In 2015, the U.S Congress passed a resolution stating that military aid for Ukraine cannot be used for funding, arming or training the Azov Battalion. But in 2016, the ban was rolled back, reportedly under Pentagon pressure. Since then, there have been unsuccessful efforts by Congress members — one of whom has described it as a “neo-Nazi paramilitary militia” — to designate the Azov as a ‘Foreign Terrorist Organisation’. For all that, Azov social media channels are rife with videos of militia members training with American-made weapons.

Similar contradictions were also on display, for instance, in the way Facebook has reacted to the Azov. In 2016, it designated the Azov battalion a “dangerous organisation”. In 2019, it placed the Azov in the same category as the Islamic State (IS) and banned it. But after the Russian invasion on February 24, Facebook reversed the ban, allowing expressions of praise for the Azov. Significantly, the Azov has always had a pan-Ukrainian dimension, with documented links to American white supremacist groups such as the Rise Above Movement (RAM). It has volunteer fighters from different parts of Europe. It regularly conducts military training camps for civilians, including children, and has tried to build a ‘cool’ sub-culture around nationalism, militarism and physical sports – its mixed martial arts tournaments are quite popular. Its spokespersons have reiterated their intent to eventually ‘take over’ Kyiv and have said Ukraine needs a dictator to set things right.

I will leave you with these excerpts from govinfo.gov:

In 2018, the FBI reported white supremacists from Scandinavia, Northern Europe, and the United States were training as foreign fighters with foreign paramilitary groups like the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion in Ukraine and in far-right partisan training camps in Russia.

The Azov Battalion, a Ukrainian National Guard regiment with a large neo-Nazi contingent rooted in ultranationalist soccer hooliganism, have drawn foreign fighters from the European continent, Brazil, Russia, and the United States. Known for flying Nazi battle flags from their tanks and uniform markings that resemble the wolfsangel, or “wolfs hook”-a symbol used by the Nazi military and Panzer tank divisions-Azov Battalion have been accused of ethnic racism, “ISIS-style” war crimes, and torture.

A number of American white supremacists also have connections to Azov, a Ukrainian extremist group and militia. The Azov Battalion was created in May 2014 to fight Russian-backed separatists in the east of the country. Many of the volunteers who joined the group had ties to the far-right hooligan movement in Eastern Europe. The group also has ties to neo-Nazis in Ukraine.

Simple answer: they weren’t “left enough” for the communists.

“Although both Fascists and Nazis self-identified their doctrines as belonging to the left wing and contemporaries observed an obvious socialist tilt in the socioeconomic structure of Italy and Germany, left-leaning intellectuals have vigorously opposed any suggestion that fascism and National Socialism were phenomena of the Left and had a wonderful affinity with the Soviet and other Communist regimes. “

PS -- the explanation above goes a long way to explaining why the US Feral Gubbermint labels Nazi as “right-wing”.

Well operation paperclip brought about 1600 Nazi scientists here after world war 2. Nazis were and are not far right, they are national socialists. A better more appealing way of saying communist.

David has asked a very important question. I will try my best to answer it. Calling National Socialism (Nazism) the “far-right” was one of the most brilliant strokes of propaganda the totalitarian left; composed of progressives, socialists and communists, ever put forth. For decades they have used this propaganda device to neutralize, marginalize and demonize the thoughts, views, values, customs, traditions and policies of both secular and Christian conservativism.
After WWII, the National Socialists, of Germany, were universally viewed as the ultimate form of evil. The leftists, by calling their Ideological brothers (Nazis) the “far-right,” were thus able to, (1) deflect any criticism of their shared ideological links with Nazism, and were also, at the same time, (2) able to falsely cast traditional conservatives as being just like the “evil Nazis” of Germany. And this spectacular lie, to this very day, has been accepted by many as an “obvious” truth.
This is the true political spectrum: The “far-right” is the absence of government (anarchy). Moving to the left, we have a constitutional republic (rule of law, not rule of men, system). Moving to the left of that we have democracy (which the American founders called “the tyranny of the majority”). Moving to the left of that we have totalitarian form of government in all its flavors; ordinary dictatorships, Nazi , communist, etc.,).

An excellent discussion; however I like the Nolan version from the Libertarian party better, clarifying freedom, as a primary issue!

For a more red neck perspective, when some one breaks in my house to murder or rob me, I don’t care what color there clothes are or what their hat logo is, or even their politics are. The bottom line is they want my possessions, freedom or life, they should and will be dealt with accordingly! From my perspective the left, right and most others are just thieves and murders!

If Nazis were National Socialists, why are they referred to as far-right?
Because to liberals, everyone they don’t like is a “Nazi”, which shows their media-instilled bias and a complete lack of any understanding of history. Just like antifa being prime examples of fascism, they simply don’t understand the very basic lessons of history, even the last 100 years.
This is what we get when schools are indoctrination centers rather than centers of learning.

I don’t even know if I should try this. National socialists are socialists that favor national sovereignty. Communists are international socialists and are against national sovereignty. Communists are extreme far left and anyone who opposes them is considered by them to be right wing. My best effort.

The “Sonnenrad”, or “Sun Wheel” (a curved Swastika) is not “rooted in Nazi occultism”. It is an ancient symbol used by some cultures but specifically in Scandinavia. Heck, the Vikings used the sun wheel. Were they “nazis”?
Same for the Fylfot (what we know as the “swastika”). It too is an ancient symbol used by many cultures around the world and as far afield as India and by Indian tribes in the American Southwest. Before WW2, the shoulder patch for the 45th Infantry Division of the US Army was a gold swastika on a red background. Research it for yourself.

Agreed! Knowing history while the masses are ignorant is doenright painful, but I digress.
Perfectly illustrates Strider777’s point above. The left are masters at propaganda and subverting language -- they disabuse terms so mu h as to change their meaning to most people (further demonstrating how ignorant the masses are).
I am fully of the belief we are far superior to the general masses. I don’t say that to compliment this group but rather denigrate the other. To even acknowledge and discuss such topics makes you twice as smart as the average doctor today.

The corruption of our once great nation is complete. We’re merely circling the drain.
I recently visited a friend in the hospital. Had to travel 1/4 of the country (by car).
When I say we are fucked, you have to understand, I mean, we are FUCKED!

The signs ALL OVER the hospital nagged constantly everywhere “We’re still masking”. The signs even detailed the fact that despite the CDCs guidance, YOU WILL COMPLY!
Literally said: You will comply. We know it doesn’t mean shit for your health, but you’re going to comply anyways because we can make you.
So fucked…
