The man who spent 56 days in isolation as part of the History Channel reality series “Alone” is adventuring throughout Lake County with a fellow contestant.
Alan Kay won $500,000 after being the last of 10 contestants to endure living in remote areas of a Canadian island just north of Washington in complete isolation, depending solely on nature for food and shelter.
The Georgia native got into Lake County Wednesday to visit his friend and fellow contestant Chris Weatherman, of Umatilla. The pair has been exploring throughout Lake County and into the woods at the Seminole State Forest. They made a stop at Lake Tire and Auto in Tavares Thursday afternoon to chat with Weatherman’s friend and shop owner Ralph Smith.
“Well, I’ll be here for a few days and am planning to teach a self-defense class…” Kay said. “It’s so funny how many bugs there are here. There are so many ticks and pests.”
