Working 60 Hours A Week At 3 Part-Time Jobs And Still Living Paycheck To Paycheck

Woman Face Skyline - Public Domain

What can you do when you are working 60 hours a week at three part-time jobs and it is still not enough?  In America today, many people have taken on more than one job in a desperate attempt to make ends meet, but they still come up short at the end of the month.  And those that are actually working are the fortunate ones, because in one out of every five families in the United States nobody has a job.  There are more than 100 million working age Americans that are currently not employed (yes this is true), and as I pointed out yesterday, job cut announcements by major firms are currently running 24 percent ahead of last year’s pace.  But unemployment is just part of the overall problem.  There is this growing misconception out there that if you “have a job” that you must be doing okay.  Unfortunately for the growing number of “working poor” in America, that is not true at all.

Just consider the case of 55-year-old Erlinda Delacruz.  At one time she had a good full-time manufacturing job, but then her factory closed down.  Millions of other Americans have also seen their good paying jobs sent out of the country in recent years, and yet our politicians refuse to do anything about it.  Today, she works 60 hours a week at three different part-time jobs and she still makes less than she once did at the manufacturing plant…

I do not like Sally Muffinpuff stories. One person’s heartbreaking experience is used to push through massive legislation like Obamacare. It is a old trick. The above story starts out that way but it is indicative of our shrinking working class. More hours, more taxes and less benefits are the consequences of socialism. While we work, the entitled class and political elites shake their heads in disbelief; they wonder how much longer the sheep will be silent.

As do I.

3 of our daughters are going through the same sh*t- bustin’ their asses working two or three jobs-and the paychecks don’t cover the bills, another is working a full time job and a part time 3 day a week job,and son-in- law is working part time 6 days a week at one job,and 4 10 hour days a week at another job.
They just barely make rent, utilities, car payment, clothes for the grandkids, and groceries.
Back in the 70’s when I moved out of my parents house-as long as I had a good full time job,the girlfriend only had to work part time for our “fun money”.
Now,kids have to come up with first and last months rent,a security deposit, and pay deposits for gas, electric and water/sewer.
Costs over $3,000.00 just to move into a decent apartment complex,or rent half of a house.
How are today’s kids-the ones willing to workanyhow-supposed to come up with $3,000.00 working for $8-$10.00 an hour?
More .gov bullshit is not the answer-less .gov bullshit is the answer.
Enough of the horsepucky that businesses are forced to hire various special snowflakes who are clueless about the job, while those who are qualified are not hired because they aren’t one of the protected special snowflakes.

Back in the early 90’s the company I worked for brought in a man to teach some classes. He made a comment that companies could not afford to pay their employees what they use to. So I asked why? What changed? I got no answer. Lets say from then on, I considered everything he said as a load of manure. There are no too many things that make me as made as someone makes a statement and cannot back it up.

This was before I had the internet. If I would have had it then, I would have googled the answer and the next class gave it to him. The reason he did not answer was in 1970 the CEO made an average of 24 time the normal worker, at about that time they made 100 times the amount.

It’s not just CEO pay-used to be if a company’s stock lost a few cents a share it was no big deal,as it would likely gain it back in the next quarter.
Now,it’s turned into profits for the shareholders at any cost, and CEO’s get absurd salaries because there aren’t all that many capable of running large corporations at a profit.

The CEO was just a single point to show the greed of those who run most businesses and how it has effected those on the lower end of the company.

At one time in my life, I got by paycheck to paycheck working in a factory. I tired of being poor, so I went to college and got a degree. It took a while. I cut back to living at a bare minimum and paid for it as I went. It is that easy.

Forgot to mention that I was a single dad with two kids at the time. I was lucky enough that my parents watched my kids while I was at school. I also worked a full time job.
