Would we need this again in a WROL situation?

The early settlers used forts to gather to protect themselves during troubled times. Would these secured communal areas be necessary in the future.

I suppose that’s the idea behind the Citadel. Personally I see redoubts as death traps especially in today’s modern battlefield. A undetectable underground bunker that you can hide in is the only
retreat option. Emphasis on the word, undetectable. However once detected it becomes a death-trap also unless there is also an undetected egress.. Shoot and Move is a preferred tactic.
