$52 Billion a Year from Social Security to Dead People

From Grok:

DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, recently identified 20 million deceased individuals still listed in the Social Security database, sparking concerns about potential fraud and improper payments, as reported in February 2025.

The Trump administration’s claims about millions of dead people receiving Social Security checks have been disputed, with the Associated Press clarifying on February 19, 2025, that while some improper payments occur, the numbers are exaggerated and misrepresent the data.

Elon Musk has highlighted massive fraud in federal entitlements, including Social Security, estimating losses at $1 billion per week, and pushing for digital identity solutions to address these issues, as noted in his X posts and news reports from February 2025

Old article as Vivek hasn’t been with Doge for weeks. The ‘dead people’ on rolls just means a missing tick mark in a box, not necessarily that fraud taking place. The person could have been below SS collecting age when they died, and relatives didn’t inform SS at the time. Easily done and easy fix by adding a control that informs SS whenever probate is granted. Missing controls don’t equal fraud, just doesn’t prevent it,

“digital identity solutions”?

As I have often said, ” Our chains are being forged, not of iron or steel, but of ones and zeros”.

I originally thought that the fraudsters were the family, care givers and nursing homes not reporting deaths. Turns out it’s worse. Organized international crime groups are involved. Each crime group is collecting for hundreds of social security numbers. Maybe more. It’s big business for them.
