A US-controlled detonation on Thursday that was heard across Kabul destroyed Eagle Base, the last CIA outpost outside Kabul airport, US officials said on Friday.
The base blast was intended to ensure that any equipment or information left behind would not fall into the hands of the Taliban.
Eagle Base, started at the start of the war in a former brick factory, had been in use throughout the conflict and grew from a small outpost to a sprawling center used to train the counterterrorism forces of Afghan intelligence agencies.
These forces were among the only ones to continue fighting as the government collapsed, according to current and former officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence-related issues.

I don’t know why the CIA is so concerned about their “secrets” being found out when our “leadership” has given the Taliban much more than was required or prudent. How about the 2 squadrons of men (Marine & 101st) who have been left behind today as the other troops were loaded onto homeward bound planes? What are their lives worth? How about the multi-millions of dollars worth of armaments & war making equipment that were flown into Kabul during the evacuation, buried and now turned over to the Taliban? How about the lives wasted in the suicide bombing? How about the human beings who were exposed by “our leadership” as American or American allied lists handed over to the Taliban for their governance? How about the broken, shattered trust between the American people and the “leadership”. I say this with no particular action in mind but as a statement of certainty. This is not over. The Taliban are not done which means US citizens are not done. Frankly, I could care less about the blowing up of CIA compound buildings and the destruction of their documents. The CIA & FBI, in particular, have clearly morphed into their own style of unrestricted terrorism which feeds on anyone they can harvest. Their trail of duplicity and outrageous mayhem has left no continent untouched. CIA is virtually synonymous with cartels, drugs and human trafficking. FBI means F—ed Beyond Intelligence because everything they touch or speak is an abominable lie and the only ones who still think they are cute or clever is them. Why do we continue to speak of any of these corporate-governmental gorillas as sacrosanct when good people’s lives are routinely destroyed because they exist in the first place? To use an old vulgarity: CIA or Taliban, turn them upside down and they all look the same. I think the blowing up of the building was a waste of a good structure.
