And Now For Something Really Important …

Since the seating of the new NC General Assembly, I have been monitoring activity of the Legislature.  [ref. http://www.ncleg.net/Legislation/Legislation.html]

Some times ya gotta wonder out loud if this is the best use of our time and treasure:

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA

SESSION 2011

HOUSE BILL 321

RATIFIED BILL

*H321-v-2*

AN ACT ADOPTING THE TOWN OF GRIFTON’S SHAD FESTIVAL AS THE OFFICIAL SHAD FESTIVAL OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the Grifton Shad Festival, held annually since 1970, is the oldest festival in Pitt County and one of the longest running festivals in eastern North Carolina; and

Whereas, the Grifton Shad Festival provides visitors with many family-oriented activities, such as a parade, arts and crafts, and historical exhibits; and

Whereas, each year, citizens in the area demonstrate their community pride by volunteering to make the festival a success; Now, therefore,

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1. Chapter 145 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:

Ҥ 145-33. State shad festival.

The Grifton Shad Festival is adopted as the official Shad Festival of the State of North Carolina.”

SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.

In the General Assembly read three times and ratified this the 7th day of April, 2011.

And yet we cannot get term limits, a recall amendment, tax cuts, state worker reductions, property tax cuts, voter referendums or a solid tenth amendment resolution passed.

But it is such a fine event. Why do you have a Prejudice AGAINST Shad? Huh?????

http://griftonshadfestival.com/

How about some “Save The Shad” signage for the Tea Party Rally on Friday. And what do they use for bait? Crickets or Red Wigglers or Artificial spinner type lures?
* Is it “Green Bait”?
* Did the NC Wildlife Commission weigh in on the resolution?
* What about the ‘Pain’ the Shad incur while being out of the water?

I say we need to Unionize the NC Bait & Tackle Association along w/ PETA for the Counter Protest!

My issue is not with the fish, but with the “shaddy” characters that inhabit the Legislature and waste MY money…
