This is good advise. Only problem I see is if the power goes out for 3 weeks you will be able to read by the light of the fires in the major metropolitan areas. The carnage, death and injuries will cre catastrophic.

Bilmil you are correct. If the grid goes down is only the first half of the equation. You don’t just flip a switch, and all is ok. How do you supply electricity to a burned city and with no power they will burn. Grid down 3 weeks is grid down permanently.

One of the points he brings up is the storage of gasoline. Yes, a few jerry cans and some Sta-bil (or other fuel stabilizer) is a solution. That will work, if your generator, etc. are setup to run on gasoline.
I had to get a new generator a couple years ago (old one was 20 years old and becoming unreliable). For my circumstances, I found one of the multi-fuel options a better fit. They have some that run on Diesel and/or propane. Diesel stores FAR better than gasoline (same protocol, add a stabilizer).
IF you are looking at a generator, consider diesel or propane powered. I have a 500gal propane tank for my home appliances (and added a hookup to feed my generator). BOOM, lots time stored in that tank in the ground (I can live w/o hot water). I was able to purchase and fill a 350gal diesel ‘farm tank’ for my tractor. That’s a LOT of generator fuel on-premises (and you can buy off-road at a lower tax rate!). Got a diesel vehicle? I don’t think the DOT’s gonna check the color of your fuel when the grid goes down….
I have moved a lot of my power-requirements onto diesel fuel options over the last several years in large part due to better storability. I have lost zero functionality with this sacrifice, but now have a lot of equipment I can be independent with, because I’m not beholden to gasoline. That 350gal farm-tank buys me at least a year of generator run-time. Just TRY doing that with gasoline.
