By Bob Lightner
A couple of years ago, this writer took his American flag down from the pole at his farm, reverently folded it, and placed it in a drawer. It has not seen the light of day since then. Although the writer substitutes for teachers in the government schools, he no longer joins in the Pledge of Allegiance. The particular point that determined his course in this regard was the phrase ‘land of the free and home of the brave.’ You see, he came to realize that America as practiced in the 21st Century is a fraud. We say we are free, we contend we are brave. The writer contends both are mere fiction; the result of propaganda and mind control. Consider the following questions before you discard this line of reasoning.
Does a free society send government hit men to eliminate anyone they perceive to be an enemy of the state?
Does a free society have hundreds of police agencies, each with the authority to deprive a man of his life, liberty and property in their sole discretion?
Does a free society have hundreds of thousands of laws, codes, rules, regulations, and policies which effectively criminalize nearly every aspect of one’s existence?
Does a free society lead the world in prison population?
Does a free society hunt down criminals and terrorists by treating its citizens like criminals and terrorists?
Does a free society tell its citizens what foods they are / are not allowed to consume?
Does a free society steal your money at gunpoint to buy bombs that they drop by remote control on brown people in faraway lands?
Does a free society debase its currency and plunder the purchasing power of its citizens?
Does a free society saddle unborn generations with obligations they never signed up to bear?
Does a free society award near total control of the economy, the money supply, and everything tied to it, to a tiny elite few?
Does a free society brainwash its citizens into believing that they live in a free society? (at least the Chinese know they’re not free…)
Ask yourself, are you really living in a free society? Are you free? If not, why not? What else could possibly be more important?

The writer believes most who honestly attempt to answer these questions must come to the conclusion that, no, this is not the land of the free. So how about the ‘home of the brave’? His conclusion is that a brave people would demand to be a free people. Ergo, since those in this ‘land’ are not ‘free’ and do not demand to be so, neither are they ‘brave’.
One needs but consider the fiction of maintaining a police force to protect us. “When seconds count the police are only minutes away.” Or, the fiction of maintaining a standing military to protect us and then conducting warfare under the pretext of ‘preventing’ war. Or, allowing our wives and children to be sexually assaulted at our airports because we fear ‘terrorists’ who are creations of the Empire. All of these submissions have one thing in common. They are a result of fear, not bravery or self-reliance or responsibility, but fear. ‘Home of the brave’? I think not.
There are other reasons to be cautious in granting one’s allegiance to the United States Empire, not least among them the methods utilized in building the empire, itself. Wars of conquest and genocide against the indigenous peoples of America, wars of aggression against our neighbors to acquire more territory (Canada – unsuccessful and Mexico – successful), ‘false flag’ operations to con the American people into wars of aggression against foreign peoples for the purpose of raping them of their natural resources, and this to benefit only the elite. The writer could go on.
One may conclude that this writer is, then, no Patriot. One would be mistaken. His roots include a grandfather who fought in the Revolution and another that fought for the South in the War of Northern (Federal) Aggression. The writer supports the ideal of America as a ‘land of the free and home of the brave’. Unfortunately, such a place has never physically existed. The Founders of the American Republic offered us the hope of such a place; a hope that we have squandered rather than pursued. Before one can be truly free, one must cast aside fear. Before one can cast aside fear, one must recognize that it is fear that enslaves him. No police, or military, or government, or empire can defeat that fear. Interestingly enough, they eventually become the very objects of fear as they brutalize those they rule. While certainly no fan of FDR, this writer does agree that, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
So what is a man, or woman, of courage to do? Resort to violence against the Empire? No, that would be fool-hearty. The non-violent answer is simple but not easy. One must withdraw one’s consent. Stop voting in Federal elections. There is no real choice in them. Voting for the lesser evil still results in evil winning. Withdraw your support from the Federally protected Corporations and do business with Mom and Pop. Withdraw everything from the Federal Banking system. You know, the ones ‘too big to fail’. Use only local banks and credit unions. Convert savings to precious metals or other tangibles, recognize the stock market for the con-game that it is, and learn to barter. Desert big Pharma and focus on nutrition and homeopathic remedies. Desert big Agra and grow your own food or locate and do business with local farmers who produce ‘natural’ fare. Turn off the propaganda ‘mainstream’ media and exercise extreme caution and discernment with the alternative media. Disinformation and agents’ provocateur abound there.
The brave American must stand up and claim the individual sovereignty his Creator endowed him with. He must starve the ‘Beast’ intellectually and financially. He must act in self-reliance, morally, responsibly, and without allowing a spirit of fear to rule him. Is that not the very quintessential definition of American? So the time has come to make a decision. Is the reader an American citizen, brave and free, or a citizen of the Empire, cowardly and enslaved?
Very well said!
