A beloved World War II veteran and pillar of his local community was brutally killed in a violent mugging by four teenagers on his driveway.
Terrance Morgan and Edward Johnson, both 19, and Leslie Litt and Geblonski Murray, both 18, have been arrested for the violent death of Lawrence E. ‘Shine’ Thornton of Greenville, Mississippi on October 18.
Assistant police chief Andrew Kaho said that each of the teens were also charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Charge, convict, execute. I’m sick and tired of the courts pussyfooting around with appeals. Quicken the process and maybe that would reduce this senseless bullshit.
I live outside Jackson, MS, where this man died, and have been to Greenville many, many times. Outside of this article in the newspaper one day, and brief TV spots, there is no outrage, none. Crickets. The newspaper, the Clarion-Ledger, reported a killing at a convenience store in the same edition that they reported Thornton’s death, and the race of the suspect was omitted from the article. You just can’t talk about it in this state. A white bass tournament fisherman from Texas was shot in the face and killed outside his motel room by two black teenagers the week before when he confronted them burgling his boat. The media coverage lasted one day for the incident and one day for the arrest. The bare minimum. It’s almost as if it can’t be discussed. Black on black violence has long been out of control in Jackson and towns like Greenville, MS, and since the Trayvon Martin verdict, it’s spilling over into the black on white arena. Increasingly brazen break-ins and home invasions are occurring in the wealthiest neighborhood, while occupants are home, despite security services, patrols, and broad daylight. Jackson police do not respond to property crime in progress, and have little concern after the fact. This town is ground zero for urban racial crime, as are many similar cities. Of interest is the new mayor of Jackson, Chokwe Lumumba, a proponent of the Republic of New Afrika, and avowed radical. Whites, and many middle and upper-class blacks, are fleeing Jackson in droves, with the town already 86% black, and more would do so if they could sell their homes in a depressed real estate market. If the SHTF, things will get ugly here fast. The suburbs ringing the city are predominantly white, and heavily armed and prepared. Even the blacks that live in surrounding communities are like-minded with the whites, as they have fled as well, now or in the recent past.
