My wife and I have a large portion of our entire retirement savings in life insurance company annuities. We have annuities that are protected from declines in the stock market. Seemed safe considering that life insurance companies are required to keep 110% assets to risk. Ooops! This has the potential to destroy the life insurance industry and our retirement savings. Having been an insurance agent for thirty years, I understood that the life insurance companies would likely survive even the death of the banking industry. I never suspected that TPTB would take it all down. I guess I was wrong. This seems like a pretty well planned and executed demolition of the economies and cultures of the West.
Good thing we also have tangibles. I cannot recommend more forcefully that anyone whose major savings are in the stock market or the banks get out while the getting is good. At least diversify into tangibles (dirt, metal, food, etc.).
