Sounds good for the locals, in the 80s when I was learning to navigate with a sail boat I took the coast guard class to learn rules of the road, navigation,plotting a course, map reading and radio, plus GPS and loran. Good refresher for me in that a lot of the map reading I learned in the military.
As an addendum, remind your students about squelch grease for their radios.
