Fall out shelter, you will sleep better if you have one! Concrete blocks in a basement or garage, with a roof of concrete bags will work just fine for fall out. Again, air burst over cities produce little fall out, while ground burst on military targets, produce much fall out! Be sure to have a giger counter of some kind.

Living near a major city on the nuke list, a bunker wouldn’t do squat. My plan is to get out of dodge as quickly as possible.

That is a great plan for numerous reasons! Back in the old days when missiles were not very accurate, the nukes needed to be large to cover the CEP of the target. Additionally the plan was to hit counter value targets as well as counter force ones, to effectively destroy an enemy.

Times have changed, the missiles are now very accurate and much smaller nukes can be used. Additionally all are aware that hitting all counter value targets (cities) are just going to create more world wide fall out that hurts both sides.

As we have seen in Ukraine, destroying the grid, ultimately destroys the economy and then the country! If it comes to nukes, I expect a counter force strike as well as an EMP, with few counter value strikes, unless we start them!
We can only hope they hit the nest of thieves and vipers!

In the event of CONUS attack the grid is likely to go down, and having a well stocked retreat will be a life saver. The best plan is of course to get out of dodge and be sure to dodge any nuke plants that might melt down!

Bizarre two would down vote Lawnmore’s comment.

If you disagree with a poster man up and post WHY.

Oh, and try to act like you’re in the same room when you disagree. Some posters clearly haven’t spoken to folks like they do online. Otherwise, a few punches in the face teach manners.

A down load if you don’t already own a copy

Fall out shelters, EMP’s.
Let us talk about the elephant in the room.
In both of these cases the grid goes down
and within two months you have over 90
Chernobyl’s in this country alone that will
be spewing radioactive waste into the
atmosphere from now to eternity.
Now the question, how do you prepare for that?

Well, well, are you on the wrong site? Steiner and Dunner sound like the same person. Southern Prepper one isn’t a bot.

First you put on your pants like a man. When it’s your time to die, you die. Otherwise do something that protects your family. Something about

Then you get busy.

The rule of 3’s stuff

Then Grahm’s Killhouse Rules.

That PDF I posted above maybe?

If you’ve been a keyboard hero too long (IE got a rifle and some prepper stuff still in the wrapper) here is a Wal-Mart run for you to do TODAY.

It is just a simple question that nobody
ever thinks about. If you ever known someone
who died from radiation sickness, you’d be singing
a different tune.
Having worked in both in fossil fueled and nuclear
power plants, if your wet dream comes to fruition
you’ll live through something no book can prepare you for.
We are an Empire on it’s last leg and that leg is giving out.
It makes more sense for the world to isolate us and let us
finish off ourselves. That’s what you need to prepare for because
when that happens this vampire government will turn on it’s own
as a last resort.
And by the way, I was part of a team that routinely carried a
Mk-54 which we called one way Sally.

Over 20 months in my two decade career in the US Medical Corps in active combat zones. Desert Sheild, Desert Storm and other smaller trouble zones.

Wherever American soldiers go the Mobile Hospitals are their FIRST.

Does that qualify?

And yes, in my civilian medical career I’ve delt with radiation injuries.

I HAVE NOT WET DREAMS about war, BEEN THERE GOT THE TEESHIRT.

Saw how civilians suffer far worse than soldiers.

That *MIGHT* be why I sign off so often with “Protect your families”.

Twenty years does qualify you but I never
could understand the “lifer” mentality.
Six years LRRP with two of those in Nam.
Yes that’s right, you’re bantering back and forth
with an old man who only asked a very simple and
pertinent question before having a grenade tossed
at him.
Given that the other Super Powers have stated
they want our natural resources less the people,
I’ll ask my very simple question again.
In what realm of reality does it make more sense
to turn this country into a nuclear waste land
if you want it’s resources.
With over 30 years in the atomic field, I would
like a well thought out answer based on facts
instead of hyperbole.

Hi Dunner, The Russians don’t want our resources. The Chinese might. But, if the US throws nukes at Russia, I can see Russia nuking us back. Or even nuking us first, if they thought we were going to pop them. My concern is the US is led by morons. Anything can happen. What do you think?

God knows anything is possible but you have
to remember one thing, our government and
even our military, (sad to say) have sold us
out to China. The two things China needs most
from this country is potable water and farm land.
It wouldn’t be in their best interest to let either
the US or Russia destroy those desperately needed
resources.
Going with the old saying that the enemy of my
enemy is my friend, conventional means of destruction
just seem more plausible.

Decades ago Dr. Bruce Clayton calculated the cost of weapons to protect your food supply from your neighbors, viz the cost to feed them for a year, it was much cheaper to feed them!

An interesting “Study”. How did he deal with thieves and Gimmie Dats in his “Study”?

Like rats they can destroy far more than you expect if not controlled.

I subscribe to rule # 4 of Grahm’s Killhouse rules.

Actually, I subscribe to all of them.

Some neighbors I’ve checked out through my police friends are not high on my feed list.

I’ll help those that are willing to work. But trusted friends are my first priority.

I’m not a nuclear expert but I have studied several studies about nuclear power plant meltdowns and grid down loss of coolant for the spent fuel rods. Nasty but not in the same category as a ground burst nuclear weapons. Miles long downwind radii issues from radioactive steam not like the massive Palestine OH train fire disaster still dropping nastiness across the eastern US.

At the time Bruce liked the HK 91, the AR 180 and the 1911, he also had food stored for the neighbour’s. He wrote the book, “life after doomsday”.

Speaking of rats, I am now storing grains with a desicant in 4L wine bottles, as they will eventually eat through most plastic.
