The key to bartering is walking away. If you have ammunition and firearms to barter, are you arming someone to use these against you? These may be obvious assumptions as is not letting yourself get into a position where you absolutely “need” items.
If you are stocking up for just yourself and/or family, think about buying barterable goods for the future. If you have a service that people need, buy extra tools and supplies to be able to provide that service.
Suggestions:
1. Good quality wool socks. What would you give for warm feet in a nuclear winter?
2. Wool hats.
3. Good work gloves.
4. Hand tools, sandpaper, nails, nuts and bolts, screws and saw blades.
5. Lubricants, filters, gas and diesel additives.
Some people would add cigarettes and liquor, but I am not. I am building a library at the community center that will hopefully be used for school and study groups. If you have any extra books that you want to give to a good cause please send them. Bibles and school books are always welcome.

Books are often not thought of, but given modern peoples’ penchant to be constantly amused and entertained, if the power were to be out for any length of time some folks would poop themselves without a TV or i-pad to stare at. Games (cards, board games, darts, etc.) are a good idea too, but books are great for entertainment and education, especially about needed skills.
Good point. We have puzzles and board games put aside also. I bought a third chess set last week.
David,
You are a tremendous individual.
Not really. I just ask the Lord for guidance and follow through.

I recommend that you reconsider. Vodka, especially, can be used to make tinctures (old fashioned medicines) that actually work. For example, Hawthorne berries can be crushed and soaked in vodka for a few months to make a functional high blood pressure medicine. The Mennonites do often do this for so many maladies. Not for drinking, but for making functional medicines when big pharma fails us.
Nothing to reconsider. I said for barter. We have bought a high proof alcohol to make tinctures and are planting herbs and medicinal plants.
Lori, you are so right ! I make my own tinctures & use them regularly What you said is true – they should be started in advance , since it takes time for the alcohol to pull the medicinal properties out of the berry or herb .
After the fall of Germany in WWII, all were mostly starving accept the farmers! The farmers with extra food traded it mostly for jewelry, even then the jewelry was mostly worth very little. When hungry who will trade food for gold?
The afore mentioned list of barter items is a very good start and I agree wool socks is at the top. I would add water purification methods and anything to do with growing food.
I was blessed once again. The property where we built the community center had a seep which we excavated. As the seep was exposed, the flow of water increased. We now have a future trout pond, a farm pond (still filling), 2 water totes and 3 gallons of pure spring water per minute. We will provide fresh water for free in the future.
Yep, I can picture it now. The nation collapses into anarchy, the government enforces a Police State and Populations are removed into urban holding areas… for their “safety”. Troublemakers sent to remote Concentration Camps. Yes?
Your little group is safe and fed, then oops, a battalion of WOKE Marines comes rolling down your little country lane collecting everyone and moving them to”Re-Settlement Camps”. Good Luck wit that….
Anon, To be sure the nail that sticks up will be pounded down! On the other hand you can’t grow food on concrete or get fresh water out of ditches. The cities are targets for everything. Nonetheless I am hoping the urbanites stay right there and hope for the best!
Just to clarify things, all food comes from the ground directly or indirectly, if
there is sun light and water, not Walmart! Food must be grown eventually, if you want to eat! Since the beginning of time, farmers have had to protect thier crops from looters. Nothing is different today, most of us will do just fine.
Ah, the most important thing after air is water. My home site ended up with two dead wells and I carried water for five years. I finally had a good pond dug and a shallow spring improved and now have six thousand gallions stored, that all can be gravity fed to the house and garden.
DR, You are truley blessed to have found a good water source! I am also sure you can protect what you have, with plan A,B anc C! Keep up the good work! I look forward to your daily post.
For every one else, have you all got seeds, dirt (land) and water, a shovel maybe, don’t wait!
I sit here most days and try to red team different scenarios. What if this and what if that. I watch the Globalists and listen to what they say. This has the potential to be worse beyond my imagination. It appears the bad guys want to turn Ukraine into WW3. With nukes. Plus a third world invasion of our country. Now add in the currency collapse. Food shortage. Shortage of everything. All you will have for the foreseeable future is what you have now. If you can hang onto it. The best you can do is pull together and try to come out on the other side of whatever hits us. Have a positive mental attitude and persevere. I feel great right now. I feel alive. It’s good not to be one of the sheep.
