Gawd, its so true. Those writers are great.
Hobestly tho, as a transplant from WNY, the last point is completely true (self responsibility). It highlights the differences among the people living in those regions, and is a major problem moving forward as one nation. As an example take State Parks. Ny and TN (current home) have lots of natural waterfalls, ponds, streams , etc. enshrined in state funded public parks across the state. In TN there is a sign that says “no lifeguard. Swim at your own risk.” Hundreds of people come to splash and play during the long hot TN summer months.
In NY they have multiple state employed park rangers shagging and ticketing people caught in the water during the 6-week long summer season. Because you might get hurt.
We need a national divorce. We are not one people any longer. The people will not homogenize. We have to deal with that.
