They keep getting away with it and encroaching on the civil liberties of everyone but their chosen few because we allow them to get away with it with nary a peep. Hold every sombitch elected representative accountable for their good deeds, and more specifically, for their bad deeds, where freedom encroachment reigns. If once they vote against the will of the people, fire their sorry carcass. Which means the people MUST be engaged with what their legislators are doing and why.
