First Chevron, Now Shell’s California Refinery Issues “Civil Emergency”

CLOSE FIREPLACE DAMPERS AND VENTS. AND COVER CRACKS AROUND DOORS AND WINDOWS WITH TAPE OR DAMPED TOWELS. MEDIA NEWS NETWORKS WILL CONTINUE TO CARRY UPDATED EMERGENCY INFORMATION. Two California refineries issue Civil Emergencies in two days? Not really:

Martinez: Sirens sound false alarm at Shell refinery

A shelter-in-place warning and sirens going off near the Shell refinery in Martinez were a false alarm, police said.

Martinez police began getting calls at about 7:15 a.m. as residents reported being notified to shelter in place, a dispatcher said. Residents also reported hearing sirens near the refinery.

Those turned out to be a false alarm, the dispatcher said, and there is no current emergency at the Shell refinery.

The mistaken call to stay indoors came less than two days after a major fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond resulted in a shelter-in-place order that for residents of Richmond and nearby communities.
