Small world sometimes. Several years ago, while visiting my in laws in San Diego we decided to spend an afternoon on the beach. Being retired military, we went to the Coronado Naval Base. It sure wasn’t crowded.

Forgive me my ignorance of many things. Are you saying that should the Coronado Bridge come down our navy would be sitting ducks in a pond with no way to escape?

Frankly, with a Navy that lets a 4 billion dollar capital ship, (amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard) , burn for 4 days in port and become a total loss is not going to accomplish very much even if they get to sea.

Bridge was designed to be easily cleared out of the way.

In war time, perhaps a little too late! Tragic thought!

Yes, I read that portion about “… if the bridge went down, the floating sections could be hauled out of the channel quickly.” But that doesn’t account for the debris of the road surface and the steel structures attached to the “floating sections” that would also have to be found and removed. Easily and quickly are relative terms dependent on what else is going on, including weather and earthquakes. Adding to the event of the bridge collapsing there is the potential for explosions of unknown origin that could prevent anyone to move the salvage equipment close to the harbor for extraction. Meanwhile our navy sits captive and unable to move if needed elsewhere.

There are other options on getting the ships out need be. These people that feel the need to constantly degrade and run down the military as a whole have never served.

9 yrs in the US Infantry and 7 in the Navy. What about you Hero?
How many years do you need to have served before you can call a spade a spade? Did you see that fiasco at the Kabul Airport during the inept US retrograde operation? Nobody was fired except the guy that protested. They deserve our scorn.
