Gas shortage: Gov. Cooper declares state of emergency for NC, halts vehicle regulations

In light of the recent cybersecurity attack that temporarily shut down one of the largest pipelines in the United States, Governor Roy Cooper on Monday signed an Executive Order declaring a state of emergency in North Carolina. The order also temporarily suspends motor vehicle fuel regulations to ensure adequate fuel supply supplies throughout the state.

On May 7, 2021, the Colonial Pipeline system reported a ransomware cyberattack, resulting in a temporary shutdown of that line. The Colonial Pipeline is a primary fuel pipeline for North Carolina.

“Today’s emergency declaration will help North Carolina prepare for any potential motor vehicle fuel supply interruptions across the state and ensure motorists are able to have access to fuel,” Governor Cooper said in a release.

The Order received concurrence from the Council of State. Read the full Executive Order No. 213 here.

Not reading the whole article, but does it not state that the state regulations actually deter North Carolinian s with accessing fuel? Makes no sense to me why there are regulations like this and why people would tolerate them.

The hits just keep on coming from the government. I dislike scenarios but I wonder what Trump would be doing in this case since Biden’s actions are worthless.

I’m not aware that Colonial’s Pipeline has been Shut Down for an extended period of Time. “Gas Shortages”, if they become widespread, will likely be driven by the “Toilet Paper and Ammo” effect, i.e. Panic Buying that overwhelms the Supply Chain.
I’m about 100 Kilometers from a Colonial Terminal; most all of the Fuel sold in this area comes from there, and as of Yet, no rise in the price of Diesel Fuel.
