GRNC Alert 5-27-2013: Stand for Liberty! Town Meeting at Quail Ridge Books & Music

On Tuesday, May 28th at 7:30 PM, Quail Ridge Books and Music is having a “Town Meeting” entitled “Gun Violence in America: What Can or Should be Done in Media, Politics and Mental Health?” They will discuss what the media, political leaders, and mental health professionals should do to counteract the “upswing” in mass shootings and violence. Of course, this ignores the fact that crime is down, mass murders are flat, and violence in society is as low as it has been since the 1960s. We need you at this “Town Meeting” to make sure our side gets heard.

They have three panelists: WRAL anchor and reporter David Crabtree, psychiatrist, humanist and philanthropist Dr. Assad Meymandi, and Congressman David Price, representing North Carolina’s 4th District. Notice anything missing? Maybe they should have a panelist who stands for personal liberty? When we asked if they planned on having someone who spoke for liberty, they told us “It’s not a ‘pro’ or ‘anti’ gun meeting.” They’re just going to to drone on for an hour or two about how bad the gun violence is in our society, but trust them, they’re not anti-gun!

Quail Ridge Books and Music is a small shop. The “Town Meeting” starts at 7:30 PM, but we request you show up at least an hour early so that the pro-liberty audience doesn’t get relegated to the parking lot. We want them to hear loud and clear that we will not tolerate any more infringements of our rights. Quail Ridge DOES NOT have anti-gun signs. Still, we request that you do not open carry. As private property holders, Quail Ridge can, and probably will, tell open carriers to leave. It might even occur to them that if there are open carriers, there may be concealed carriers. They will likely just tell everyone that if they have a gun, get out. Gun haters will use any advantage, so don’t give them a chance to throw liberty minded Americans out of the anti-gun “Town Meeting.”

GRNC needs you. We need to fill this “Town Meeting” and ask the tough questions. We need you to face down anti-gun and anti-liberty Congressman David Price (GRNC – 0 Star) when he inevitably blames honest gun owners for the violence caused by criminals and crazy people. He needs to hear that demanding that all honest gun owners end up on a list he calls “Universal Background Checks” will never happen.

We need you  to put WRAL Anchor David Crabtree on the spot about glorifying the killers while ignoring the victims of public mass murder. He needs to hear you tell him to stop teaching crazy people to murder school kids as a path to public recognition.

We need you to ask Dr. Meymandi if he supports violating HIPAA and 14th Amendment Due Process as New York doctors recently did when they reported the names of people they deemed “dangerous.” He needs to hear that doctor-patient confidentiality and the rule of law are important to you.

I doubt they’re going to listen, but a show of force might make an impression.

Nancy Olson here--owner of Quail Ridge Books. I welcome your participation in our town meeting tonight. I do want to emphasize that this is NOT a discussion of the Second Amendment. We believe everyone has the right to own guns (we have a gun in our household). We want to have a thoughtful discussion of the societal and cultural problems that lead to violence (of any kind). If you have questions in this context, we will welcome them.
