INDIANAPOLIS | Indiana plans to bill the federal government $130,953,979, the estimated cost of state services used by illegal immigrants since July 1, 2011.
A 2011 law, sponsored by state Sen. Mike Delph, R-Carmel, requires state budget officials to determine how much Indiana spends annually to support illegal immigrants.
The estimate includes $111 million for education, $8 million for health care and $12 million for prisons.
“The federal government is to blame for not controlling our borders,” Delph said. “I am requesting Congress to pay back what is owed to us, the hard-working, law-abiding, legal residents of the state of Indiana.”
From Sen. Delph’s Facebook page:
Today the State of Indiana as a result of SEA 590, sent a bill to Speaker John Boehner (R, Ohio) and to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D, Nevada) seeking reimbursement of $130,000,000 plus in expenses as a result of the failure of the Federal government to do its job regarding immigration enforcement. If the Feds are going to tell us it’s their problem and we as a sovereign state cannot engage in their responsibility, then they should at least reimburse state and local taxpayers for our costs. It’s only fair! Today also is the day I decided I just don’t care anymore. I am going after any enabler of the Ivory Tower Elite Establishment that chokes American freedom! I will start next week with a well known statewide Republican officeholder and candidate. If this week didn’t stir the conscience of American Patriots, nothing will.
