Libya’s Gaddafi dies of wounds suffered in capture near Sirte

Report: Qaddafi dead near Sirte, official says

Unconfirmed reports of fugitive dictator Muammar Qaddafi’s death surfaced
Thursday shortly after his hometown of Sirte fell to Libyan fighters. National Transitional Council official Abdel Majid told Reuters news agency that Qaddafi was wounded and taken into custody while fleeing Sirte.

“He’s captured. He’s wounded in both legs … He’s been taken away by
ambulance,” Majid told the news agency by telephone.

Reuters later reported that Qaddafi died of those wounds, citing a senior TNC
military official. The U.S. State Department could not confirm the reports.

According to the Associated Press, chief spokesman for the Transitional
National Council Jalal el-Gallal and the council’s military spokesman
Abdul-Rahman Busin said the reports were unconfirmed.

Also killed was Abdul Hakim Al Jalil:

Abdul Hakim Al Jalil, commander of the 11th brigade says he has seen the body of
the chief of Gaddafi’s armed forces, Abu Bakr Younus Jabr.

“I’ve seen him with my own eyes,” he said and showed Reuters a picture of Jabr’s body. “Moussa Ibrahim was also captured and both of them were transferred to (our) operations
room.”
