A group of militiamen on Saturday occupied the headquarters of a national wildlife refuge in Oregon in support of two brothers who are slated to report to prison on Monday on arson charges, the Oregonian newspaper reported.
“We’re planning on staying here for years, absolutely,” Ammon Bundy, one of the occupiers, told the newspaper via telephone.
Militia members at the refuge claimed to have as many as 150 supporters with them. The Malheur National Wildlife refuge building, federal property managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, was closed for the holiday weekend.
Bundy said that while the occupiers, who included his brother Ryan Bundy, were not looking to hurt anyone, they would not rule out violence if police tried to remove them, the Oregonian reported.
The occupation came shortly after a few hundred marchers paraded through Burns, Oregon, about 50 miles (80 km) away, to protest at the prosecution of father and son Harney County ranchers Dwight Hammond Jr. and Steven Hammond, who were ordered returned to prison by a federal court which ruled their original sentences were insufficient.
The Hammonds had served time after being convicted in 2012 of setting fires on public land to protect their property from wildfires.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The government’s case and the opposing viewpoint of the defendants. This incident would not even be a case if the government did not own private land. There is no provision in the Constitution other than Washington, D.C. and military bases allowing the government to own property.
To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;
So how did we get to this point:
One thing is sure: the media will have a field day supporting the regime and vilifying the “militia”.
I find this as well as the defense of the Bundy ranch an uplifting and positive sign for liberty loving people. .
Well, I agree with their passion, but given that the Hammonds specifically said not to do something in support of them through their attorney, this seems a bit pointless, and about as significant as the crap BlackLivesMatter does. In any matter, however big or small, it’s critical to pick your battles. They are pissing in the wind.
They are not going against the wishes of the Hammonds who will be “surrendering” in the morning as political prisoners of the state. How else would you classify someone accused of “terrorism” for trying to protect their land from fire? If the takeover of the building brings to light the true facts in the Hammond case, God bless them.
At some point, people have to understand that the “government” will be coming for them. Whether the reason is valid or to silence any opposition, the end result of statism (tyranny) is the same throughout history.
Interestingly, this “occupation” was reported on CNN this morning and included an extensive telephone conversation with one of the Bundy boys. Lots of images of flags and “cowboys”.
… and not a “peep” on the morning report from FOX News.
The casual observer might be inclined to think the Communist News Network is setting the background for a future story on domestic terrorism.
You’ve got to give credit to the militia occupying the park offices. That takes some balls.
David is right, the only things statism brings in the end is death to anyone that opposes it.
Mike V has a reasoned take on those with “John Brown Syndrome.” http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/2016/01/perfect-timing-for-regime-federal.html
That is my thoughts as well.
Is it a John Brown syndrome or a man will to stand on liberty? There are far too many people that wave the flag and yet in reality are not capable of living as a freeman.
If you would of been at the Bundy Ranch Standoff, you would know who Ryan Payne and Ritzheimer were, and both are being suspected of being federal provocateurs.
So where does this leave us in your opinion? Should we support the provocateurs? Should we support what they say they are standing for? Are they trying to be martyrs? A lot of questions for which I do not have the answers. We should all watch this situation carefully and with objective reasoning.
I think the Feds will just shut off the power and wait them out. The whole legal situation stinks of double jeopardy to me.
The full story on this longtime ongoing harassment of the Hammond family is here laid out on a time-line. It is an evil story.
this wont end for the communist government that we have in place right now. it will be war, if they believe it or not. they can have all the tanks, Humvees enwraps, it means nothing. the element of surprise is everything when you are engaging Marxist Bolsheviks in the halls of our government and its bureaucracies when the least expect it. they will be burned out of there nice and easy jobs the sodomite has given his cronies Marxists. I believe they need to hang every one of these rats that are caught and are committing treasonous acts . I say let there bodies rot as an example of what will happen to traitors in our government and the bureaucracies. Folks this is coming to a town near you and that you can bank on.
Is this the right time? Is this the right issue? Is this the right situation? As with our founders, every man must consult God and conscience responding according to their dictates. My concern is for some the time may come to early but for most it will come far to late leaving little if any recourse other than capitulation and or slaughter.
It is more true than ever that like minded people must figure out some answers, live in close proximity, organize, and offer mutual support or we shall all hang separately.
I have no clue, but when these two arrived, they arose my suspicion…
Just an update… https://www.intellihub.com/breaking-fbi-en-route-oregon-federal-building-occupation/
If any innocent civilians get tangled in this, this very well could be the start.
It is interesting to see and watch how the ‘protesters’ in Fergueson and other similar situations were covered by the press and treated by government. For that matter how the illegal invaders are being treated. Why is it we have to be ‘understanding’ of their actions yet it certainly looks as if this is protest is being addressed far differently even though no violence has been committed by the so called malitia.
[…] First, not one candidate from either party is addressing the root issue of this protest. The Hammonds are still in jail as political prisoners. The government has no jurisdiction in this matter. The Federal government is not authorized to seize land from the states except as outlined in the Constitution. […]
