Modernity

“Most people live in cities; in noisy, crowded, and artificial environments, far from animals, the forest, and the stars. And from silence. Nihilism has taken over. Morality, virtue, and discipline have been replaced by instant gratification, hedonism, and decadence. Tech makes us passive and disconnected from nature (reality), distorts our attention span, cognition, and emotions. It breaks us…

We are trained to become consumers, not creators, and our entire economy is based on excess, distraction, and debt. The shameful pursuit of money has replaced the noble pursuit of wisdom and honor. We are encouraged to abandon our roots, heritage, and identity in the name of a supposed “universalism”. Corruption, manipulation, and short-term thinking dominate politics, education, and media. What used to be immoral is now celebrated. What used to be heroic and moral is ridiculed and even condemned.”

Morpheus: This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I agree 100 percent. I have walked away from all of it.

Fifteen years ago at the age of 60 I was at a career cross roads…I was a successful independent ‘consultant’ and was offered an interview for an international position (big money – constant travel) with the 13th largest company in the world at that time, who had been a client many times. But, I was already sick and tired of decades of travel, and I knew I would have gotten the position.

I was living the burb upper middle class cul-de-sac life…and I wanted OUT!

I had another opportunity at the same time with a local company (another client) to work (as an independent consultant) month to month on a handshake for about 25% of the $$$$ compared to the international running and gunning frantic life. The bonus was I only had to work 3 days a week for the local company…and I still made enough to live off…and even invest some…as I was flush, debt free, always lived below my means, drove beaters, and had done well…I wasn’t super rich…but comfortable…and I knew greed was a punji trap.

After much prayer I went with the local opportunity and stayed with them 5.5 years. We sold the burb home at a decent profit, bought a large tract of rural land outside a small town, and went full retard Prepper.

During that time with contractors, and my own labor the other 4 days a week I carved out a modest working farm/defensive compound to prepare for what I was convinced was coming…and it looks like what I was Prepping for is almost here.

Well, I wasn’t seduced by the $$$$$ and corporate glitter (it was tempting) but this thread left me nodding in agreement.

You were wise to recognize that the rat race was over and the rats won. I’ve forgone a couple of attractive job offers just to remain self employed (as my own boss) and while the delta between what I’m making in that arrangement, versus what I could’ve pulled working for a big company isn’t anywhere near as pronounced as it was in your case, it wasn’t inconsequential, either. I do work a lot f hours, but enjoy what I do, and don’t have anyone else breathing down my neck or trying to force me to do things I don’t want to as a condition of employment. To me that’s worth more than any amount of money I could be offered as a caged rat.

Keep in mind, the first ones to arrive in your A/O will be refugees from the fighting. I would find out if your town/county officials have any kind of game plan to deal with them. Watch your lines of drift such as railroad rights-of-way, powerline corridors, pipelines, etc. People escaping the chaos on foot will use these means of egress. And they will not be above helping themselves to whatever they see along the way to “survive”.
Every Amazon, FEDEX, or UPS driver who routinely comes to your neighborhood knows what you are receiving. If your neighborhood has seen porch pirates, guess what: During SHTF, you are a target. Get with your neighbors to set up security plans. There are many other things I could add, but you get my drift. Plan accordingly. Bleib ubrig.
