Occupy Raleigh Petitions City Council for Preferential Treatment

Tuesday evening, a petition was delivered to the Raleigh City Council which had been signed by over a thousand people … only a few more than 200 of the signatures were from residents of Raleigh.

We object to unfair denial of Occupy Raleigh’s permit request

Greetings,

I am dismayed to learn of the Occupy Raleigh arrests on October 27, particularly as the arrests were spurred by the police decision to force a woman with a documented disability to stand in order to participate in the demonstration. Demonstrators have complied with police requests and allowed ample space for public use of the sidewalk. The recent arrests indicate a disregard for Occupy Raleigh’s freedom of speech and right to assemble for redress of grievances.

I call on you to reverse your stance of arresting protesters and to recognize the right of Occupy Raleigh to demonstrate. Please work with the movement to ensure a safe Occupation space in a mutually agreeable location on the Capitol grounds and drop trespassing and trumped-up resisting arrest charges against those who were arrested on October 15 and October 27.

[Your name]

The primary complaint is the “injustice” of the arrest of a handicapped protester … but News14 reported the individual in question was offered accommodation for her disability.

“City Manager Russell Allen says the state ordered protesters to remove items from the sidewalk and that the disabled woman was given the option of sitting on a park bench, but refused.”

So … the “Occupiers”, who refused to comply with regulations and the directive of law enforcement, want preferential treatment and they want the City to drop charges against those who were arrested.

These “Occupiers” who disrespect the law are kin to Occupy Oakland participants.  They use the infrastructure of the Republic to destroy the Republic.

While they speak about Rights and civil liberties, their signs and actions provide clear evidence of their desired ends and means …

Have you seen any Tea Party photos, from anywhere in these United States, that showed such disrespect for life, private property and law enforcement?

Write the Mayor and the City Council.  Express your displeasure with any concessions which might be under consideration related to the “Occupy” movement.
