One dead in shooting at North Carolina community college

Law enforcement officers flooded the campus of Wayne Community College Monday and locked down buildings as they looked for a shooter.The mayor of Goldsboro said at least one person was killed Monday morning in a shooting on the campus of Wayne Community College.

Law enforcement officers flooded the campus and locked down buildings as they looked for a man described as white, about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a goatee and tattoo over his left eye. The man was seen wearing a blue jacket and carrying a long rifle.

Nearby Tommy’s Road Elementary School was also on lockdown, while students of Wayne Early Middle College, located on the college campus, were advised not to go to classes. The private Wayne County Day School – with about 300 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade – also was on lockdown, said Melissa Watkins, a volunteer parent receptionist at the school.
