I think it was around 2002 or 2003 some guy in Albuquerque shot down a Sheriff’s helicopter that was hovering near his house at night, keeping him awake. I believe he used an M1A. The DA tried to throw the book at him, but it was found there was no law against shooting at aircraft, so they nailed him on discharging a firearm in city limits and a couple other misdemeanors. I believe new laws were put on the books afterwards, though.
