No argument from me. I do have a problem calling a social worker to resolve “crime”. According to BLM, Silence is violence. Does that mean Action is anti-violence? I expect we will find out shortly.
Depends to a large extent what you define as “social work” and “crime”.
In 42 years, I have requested assistance from the county sheriff precisely four times.
Two requests were to provide documentation for insurance claims against burglaries (Actions which police are powerless to prevent … no suspects apprehended, no arrests made, no goods recovered).
Two requests were to collect and formally warn trespassers that I had personally ejected from my property (Actions which police are powerless to prevent … I used their “recovery service” to avoid being charged with vigilantism).
Seems like social work to me and doesn’t impress me as a good return on investment for all the tax-extortion over those 42 years.

The solution in Minneapolis after the police department is disbanded is to call a friend or a trusted social worker to remedy a crime. I see neither option as viable. Which is why I just zeroed my sights last night and today.
We could certainly do without All of the 250,000 Federal Police Forces, I honestly haven’t seen their worth, from ATF at Waco, Ruby Ridge, and Fast&Furious Mexican Cartel Supply. FIB doing the same, plus seemingly running Islamist Terrorism in Boston Marathon, FT. Hood, San Bernardino,
Bureau of Land Mgt. in NV, TX and OR attacking Ranchers, then the Armed IRS, Armed Postal, etc.
But this isn’t Either Or , if Citizens aren’t going to do the Nasty Work, it has to be contracted out to Someone???
Elected Sheriffs seem to me to be the best bet, though Nothing is Perfect.

Government-supremacists are terrified of abolishing the police. They are afraid of what would happen next. Sure, some are probably afraid of rampant crime, but I’ll bet more of them are even more afraid of people finding out they never really needed the Blue Line Gang in the first place. Once you figure this out it’s not that far to realize you don’t need politicians, either.
