Pacifism Isn’t Just Wrong, It’s Immoral

Let’s revisit an Article from January of 2020

Pacifism is “the belief that war and violence are unjustifiable and that all disputes should be settled by peaceful means.”

Honourable sentiment.

Pacifists while they may have good intentions, are wrong.

George Orwell said, “Pacifism is objectively pro-fascist. This is elementary common sense. If you hamper the war effort of one side, you automatically help out that of the other. Nor is there any real way of remaining outside such a war as the present one. In practice, ‘he that is not with me is against me’.”

Everyone wants peace. Everyone likes peace. So you may think it’s honourable to continue to preach your pacifist ways. It’s not. The road to peace is not one paved by passivity. Communist and tyrants don’t typically step down because they are ignored. In fact being ignored often fuels them, allowing them to commit atrocities unfettered.

The great men who founded our once great country desired peace. They did not want to fight. But “Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” We all know what followed.

War is inevitable when faced with evil.  As we forgive those who trespass against us.  This passage conflicts with God’s blessing when the trespass is your own murder.  It’s impossible to forgive someone during the act of killing you and/or your loved ones.  Forgiveness comes after the act but you can’t forgive your own murderer if you are dead.  The very nature of the sanctity of our life blessing contradicts forgiveness while we are being murdered.  It makes us complicit in our own murder, akin to suicide, which is like spitting in Gods face for the blessing of the life he gave us.  And we can’t repent the mortal sin of suicide if we are dead.  No, we have the obligation and right to protect life, especially our own as Christians.  Although Jesus would be considered a pacifist by most interpretations I can’t imagine him favoring suicide over life, self preservation, and self defense.   Therefore I say war is sometimes necessary, noble, and required to subdue evil.   Pacifism on the other hand can be considered suicidal.

That said, I agree peace should be sought before, during, and after a conflict.  All sides in a conflict must agree to peace though.  As an example: How many times was Zelensky offered peace only to fire off another round of drones.   Another example is the vitriol from the left who cheered the death of an innocent man, Charlie Kirk.  His only offense being expressing truth through civil debate.  His death was a form of guerilla warfare.  Escalation of this violence risks all out civil war as the left calls for more of the same and not condemnation of the violence.
