I became aware that something was going on between ConCarolinas (a science fiction convention in Charlotte) and my friend John Ringo, in a tiny private group on Facebook.  This is literally the group for my innermost circle, the people I trust.

They were talking about Ringo being Mau-Maued out of ConCarolinas.

I perked my ears up at this, first because of course, ConCarolinas has been a Baen adjacent con, meaning that Baen authors have more or less always attended, and I’ve heard stories of “so we were at con Carolinas, when—” and second because I lived in Charlotte for seven years and still have friends there.

It’s been known for years – as long as I’ve been published in SF/F – that conservatives get invited to be guests of honor at conventions far less often than leftists in SF/F and infinitely less than red-diaper-babies in SF/F, but ConCarolinas seemed like a weird place for a conflagration of snowflakism.

I do not know how many people know who John Ringo is that are reading this post. My only negatives concerning Mr. Ringo are the amount of money that I have spent buying his books and downloading Cruxshadows’ songs. Tyler Vernon. Faith Smith. Michael O’Neal. No library would be complete without his novels.

I hope one day to meet him in person but obviously it will not be this year. Another victory for SJWs since ConCarolinas disinvited him. And another loss for his faithful readers. Chattanooga is less than two hours away so I have hope that Mr. Ringo will be doing some public events in the future and that I will meet him between the here and the there.

For those who are on the fence about maintaining their Facebook accounts, I can only give you advice from my experience. I do not miss Facebook at all. While I did push the limit on their restrictions before abandoning my account, I was not issued a 30 day timeout. I can tell you that my account was shadow banned so what is the difference?

Twenty-five years ago today, FBI tanks smashed into the ramshackle home of the Branch Davidians outside Waco, Texas. After the FBI collapsed much of the building atop the residents, a fire erupted and 76 corpses were dug out of the rubble. Unfortunately, the American political system and media have never faced the lessons from that tragic 1993 day.

Fifty-one days before the FBI final assault, scores of federal Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms agents launched an attack on the Davidians’ home spurred by allegations that they had converted semi-automatic rifles to full-automatic capacity. The ATF’s lead investigator had previously rejected an offer to peacefully search the Davidians’ home for firearms violations. Four ATF agents and six Davidians were killed in the fracas on February 28, 1993. At least one ATF agent told superiors that the ATF fired first,spurring an immediate end to the official shooting review. But the media trumpeted the ATF storyline that its agents had been ambushed, entitling the feds to be far more aggressive in the following weeks.

The above story from the Hill is an opinion piece. Points to consider.

1. FBI tanks? The tanks were loaned by the military to counteract large caliber rifles in the compound.
2. As the picture above shows, the building was mainly intact when the fire(s) broke out.
3. The remains of 18 children and nine women were later found inside this bunker vault. The majority had died of smoke inhalation.
4. 76 men, women and children died in this senseless military style assault which used highly lethal military CS gas as a primary weapon. CS is not a nerve agent and it doesn’t in normal concentrations cause immediate death. But it is highly flammable, persistent and designed to incapacitate targets by causing massive biological reactions including inability to breathe, massive tearing in the eyes, nose bleeds, etc.
5. The ATF raised its flag over the compound for a short time above the ruins.
6. The false narrative put forth by Bill Clinton that child abuse was part of the Branch Davidians takes on new meaning with the revelations of his escapades on the Lolita Express.
7. This was a fund raiser for the ATF and it succeeded.

We are told that the rank and file of the FBI are good people. We are told that the top management of the FBI and DOJ are responsible for the two tiered justice currently in place in the country. I will leave you with the following thought concerning the rank and file of the FBI and DOJ.

If our national security is so important to the “government”, why are our borders not secure? If the threat from a Syrian chemical attack is a concern for the entire world, why did not more Western countries participate in the response? How did we stray so far from our original design?
