The deep state, the intelligence and investigative apparatus of the United States has been used to attempt a coup on a then prospective and now sitting president. This is as dangerous a time for the republic as has ever been in our history and it goes by with a shrug. Maybe these people will be held accountable, maybe they won’t, but we are irreparably damaged by the knowledge of it. It is why so many of us saw the ultimate election of Hillary Clinton as a demarcation point in our willingness to go along with this sham of a government.

There is some thought that Sessions will ultimately, through a special counsel or some other functionary get to the bottom of this coup, but the true fact is, they should already be lined up against the wall. What Comey, et al did was much more serious than a few felonies, the violation of FBI policy, or something akin to crossing against the light. This was an attempt at the highest levels to rig an election, overthrow the government and install a permanent police state much more aggressive than we have already seen. The startling fact of it is, they thought they could do so without a shot being fired, except at those like Seth Rich. And, they were right. It nearly worked.

Of course, because what else could he be but crazy, right? Well, a hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “If a husband calls his wife to his bed [i.e. to have sexual relation] and she refuses and causes him to sleep in anger, the angels will curse her till morning” (Bukhari 4.54.460).

There are no excuses allowed for any reason: “By him in Whose Hand lies my life, a woman can not carry out the right of her Lord, till she carries out the right of her husband. And if he asks her to surrender herself [to him for sexual intercourse] she should not refuse him even if she is on a camel’s saddle” (Ibn Majah 1854).

Well, so much for that 200K+ whisper number for December payrolls, and it appears that Goldman’s warning that winter storms in the last month of the year would depress jobs was spot on after moments ago the BLS reported that December payrolls tumbled from an upward revised 252K in November (from 228K) to only 148K, a 3-sigma miss to expectations of 190K, and the lowest print since July.

I cannot argue with results: the stock market continues to set new records daily. Forget that the underlying facts concerning our economy and government have not changed. Forget the P/E ratios. Forget common sense.

One day, reality will set in and someone will have to pay the piper. Until that day, America’s exuberance will not be trumped.

A dangerous expansion of presidential power has gone virtually unnoticed.

Trump’s supporters can’t believe their man’s primary motivation is acquiring power. Trump’s enemies, other than Senator Feinstein, can’t believe how good he is at it. Neither side will recognize the real danger until it’s too late. Legions of worrywarts fret that an erratic, captured Trump will go off half-cocked and press a nuclear button or do something else almost as stupidly devastating. What should worry them are the precise calculations and bloodless strategies of the most ruthlessly Machiavellian president since Franklin D. Roosevelt as he further consolidates and extends his power. Given present jurisprudence, nothing in the Constitution stands in his way.

Exhibit One would be President Trump’s Executive Order Blocking the Property of Persons Involved in Serious Human Rights Abuse or Corruption, dated December 20, 2017. Within various executive orders issued by Trump’s predecessors, there are provisions that would scare the daylights out of any civil libertarian who had the time and intestinal fortitude to go through them. Trump has now added to this dubious pile.
