Epic Fail: 8 of 11 Remaining Obamacare Co-Ops on the Brink

An official with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services told lawmakers last week that eight of the 11 remaining Obamacare co-ops have been selected for “corrective action plans” and “enhanced oversight.”

Twenty-three co-ops were created under the president’s health care overhaul, and so far more than half have collapsed and are no longer selling plans in the marketplace. The 12 co-ops that went out of business operated in Arizona, Michigan, Utah, Kentucky, New York, Nevada, Louisiana, Oregon, Colorado, Tennessee, South Carolina and a co-op serving Iowa and Nebraska.

The agency’s chief operating officer, Dr. Mandy Cohen, told the House Oversight and Government Reform committee that the 11 co-ops that remain are “being monitored closely,” and that eight have a corrective action plan in place and are under enhanced oversight.

Cohen explained that a co-op is put on a corrective action plan when the agency identifies issues with its finances, operations, compliance, or management processes.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R., Ga.) asked Cohen about a Department of Health and Human Services inspector general report that found that all but one of the co-ops lost money in 2014.

Illegals Cost NC Taxpayers $2.0 Billion per Year

FAIR LOGO

By Mike Scruggs

In 2014, the Federation for Immigration Reform (FAIR) released a report entitled The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on North Carolinians. Their estimate was a whopping $2.0 Billion per year. This included $1.3 Billion for the education of the children of illegal immigrants, including $299 million per year for supplemental English instruction for 90,000 children.

The state pays approximately 71 percent of this, and county and local governments pay 29 percent. Healthcare for unlawful immigrants ran to $232 million per year. Public assistance ran to $79 million and general service use ran to $212 million. Law enforcement and justice costs were estimated at $216 million. These were the easier things to estimate. Not included in law enforcement and justice was the actual cost of crime perpetrated on North Carolinians by illegal immigrants. How can you measure the pain of crimes when loss of life, severe injury, or sexual assault are involved? There is an organization in North Carolina that tracks the human costs. See this tragic accounting for yourself at the NCFire website, www.ncfire.info.

A large part of the $2.0 Billion cost is paid for by county and local governments, but $2.0 billion is equivalent to nearly 10 percent of the annual State budge of approximately $21 billion. North Carolina citizen households pay approximately $578 annually to support illegal immigration. Politicians resist acknowledging this, but you still get the bill. It is just not a separate billing marked “illegal immigration maintenance.”

FAIR’s estimate of the fiscal costs of illegal immigration is in the general range of cost estimates by the Center for Immigration Studies, NumbersUSA, and the Heritage Foundation. In fact, the Heritage Foundation produced a lengthy report in 2013, giving this revealing statistic:

Unlawful immigrant households receive $14,387 more in annual benefits and services than they pay in all forms of tax. This is essentially an indirect taxpayer paid subsidy to companies that use illegal labor.

A Message from the Man Who Destroyed the Nation

Friend —

Over the past few months, we have seen Republicans who think they are ready to sit behind this desk take to the national stage to diminish our progress, promise to undo everything we’ve worked so hard to accomplish together, and undermine a whole set of values that we as Americans share.

It’s the honest truth that we can’t afford to elect one of them as our next president. And it’s up to us to shape the direction this country takes in the future.

Here’s how we do that: By electing leaders this November from the White House down to the statehouse who share our values and understand that the work we’ve done — from making quality, affordable health care more accessible, to getting as many folks back to work as possible, to helping our young people unlock the opportunity that comes with higher education — has all been in the interest of moving this country forward and helping folks get ahead.

I know you’re ready to fight to protect our progress and elect Democrats across the country who will fight with us.

Tonight we’re facing a critical fundraising deadline, so I’m asking you to step up right now to help reach a big goal. Pitch in $10 or more today and the folks at the DNC will send you an Official 2016 Membership Card, because nothing is more important than knowing that we are a team — that we’re all in this together.

If you’ve saved your payment information, your donation will go through immediately.

QUICK DONATE: $10

QUICK DONATE: $25

QUICK DONATE: $50

QUICK DONATE: $100

QUICK DONATE: $200

Or donate another amount:

This is about making sure we leave our country in the hands of capable leaders who are going to do the work it takes to put the American people first. So thank you for your commitment to this party and to our progress. We can’t make this happen without you.

Barack Obama

What a beggar this pResident is. The honest truth is that we can’t afford to elect any politician to the federalized government. The founding principles which made our nation strong have been vilified to the point that supporting the Constitution is now considered anti-government. Patriots are labeled as racists haters. Half of the people are supporting the other half of the country’s political elite and their voting class. The sense of impending doom is only offset by the unending printing of fiat dollars that will be used to enslave our children.

Got faith?

Hugh Fitzgerald: Boston Police Commissioner William Evans: “We’re All Muslims Deep Down”

William Evans

“Veterans, troubled by rhetoric, rally support of Muslims” reads the headline to a story in the print edition of today’s Boston Sunday Globe (online yesterday it was “Local veterans hold rally in support of Muslims.”) It described a group, Veterans for Peace, that felt it simply had to stand up on behalf of Muslims in Massachusetts whom, we were told, are feeling terribly put upon because of the “politics of fear” that unscrupulous politicians were using “as a wedge issue and they’re scaring people.” The veterans were there to stand up for Muslims, and among the speakers, the most remarkable one was Police Commissioner William Evans.

He spoke last, and with great feeling. He told the assembled crowd that “We’re all Muslims deep down. We all yearn for peace.” That astounding remark can be read in either of two ways: “it is because we’re all Muslims deep down that we all yearn for peace,” or, in the other conceivable reading, “it is because we all yearn for peace that we’re all Muslims deep down.”

But then what are we — what is Commissioner Evans — to make of all those Muslims who in the past 1350 years have made war on non-Muslims from the Atlantic to the East Indies, spreading Islam by conquering so many different lands, subjugating so many different kinds of Disbelievers, and making life so difficult for them that many, in order not to pay the crushing jizyah or endure other disabilities endured by dhimmis, converted to Islam? What are we to make, today, of the host of Muslim groups — the Muslim Brotherhood, the Taliban, the votaries of the Islamic State, first in Syria and Iraq, and now in Libya and Nigeria, and those less well-known — and of all the fire-breathing imams who from millions of pulpits denounce Disbelievers and remind Believers of their duty to be “harsh and angry” with them and make war on them, and adduce Qur’anic quotes that support that duty? Anything? Nothing?

It is time to consider that this country is too large to support the different ideologies that are regionally based. Do you feel a kinship with Boston? Detroit? Los Angeles? How about Washington, D.C.?

500 Syrians Storm Greek Border Fence With Homemade Battering Ram

Last week, EU migration commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos delivered a rather unnerving assessment of the prospects for Angela Merkel’s multicultural utopia: if Turkey and Greece can’t come to some kind of agreement on how to secure Europe’s external border in the next week, the bloc will simply collapse under the weight of the refugee flow from the Mid-East.

That’s right ladies and gentlemen. At least one eurocrat thinks this entire experiment with passport-free borders is going to come to a rather unceremonious end in the next five days.

EU officials are set to meet with Turkey on March 7 to discuss possible remedies to the crisis, but the prospects for that meeting aren’t great.

Erdogan is far more interested in extracting cash from Brussels than he is in helping to stem the flow of refugees. Indeed, if you had to point to one man who has contributed the most to the exodus of civilians from Syria, you’d have to look at Erdogan, whose support for Sunni extremists and anti-Assad elements has plunged Syria into chaos.

Meanwhile, Brussels somehow expects beleaguered Greece – which is completely broke and has resorted to doubling taxes on farmers to meet Berlin’s budget demands – to control the flow of migrants into Western Europe. Last week, Athens recalled its ambassador to Austria after the country held a meeting on immigration with Balkan countries without inviting Greece. “Greece will not accept becoming Europe’s Lebanon, a warehouse of souls,” Greek migration minister, Yannis Mouzalas told reporters last Thursday.

What Is Your Fair Share?

What is your fair share for the privilege of living the American Dream? For the government, it is always more: more taxes, more regulations, more laws. How does this system maintain its tyranny? By transferring the fruits of our labor to the political elite and their voting class through workfare and welfare.

Harvard to Eliminate “Masters” Title

After months of criticism and deliberation, Harvard University has dumped the title of “master,” in use for over a century, to appease activists who say it is reminiscent of slave masters.
In a letter sent to the school community late Wednesday, Harvard dean Michael Smith said that the faculty members in charge of Harvard’s 12 residential colleges will be labeled “faculty deans” instead of “house masters.”

It should be noted that the academic title of “master” was totally unrelated to the institution of slavery. It derives from the Latin word “magister” referring to teachers or leaders. The use of the term at Harvard was borrowed from English schools such as Oxford University, which have used the master title for centuries.

Sometimes you have to laugh. Why would anyone pay to become enslaved to the government for a worthless degree? The current student loan debt to the real masters is $1.7 trillion. Without government subsidies, inflated college tuition and overpriced “professor” salaries would not exist. Another issue created by the government for their own power.
