Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk chairs a government meeting on Feb. 24

Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has come up with a solution for fighting all the ills like corruption and lack of reform that are seriously damaging the country’s reputation.  They have issued a resolution which demands that civil servants, and even the heads of state enterprises refrain from publicly criticizing the authorities and public officials.  The “Rules of Ethical Behaviour of Public Officials” are dated Feb 11, 2016, but the resolution approving them appeared on March 1.

The introductory note states that “in order to restore public trust in the work of state bodies and their officials, the Government has decided to introduce standards of ethical behaviour for civil servants”.  It asserts that this takes into account “the progressive and successful experience” of EU member states, and says that it is based on a model for guaranteeing maximum transparency of the work of state bodies adopted in Poland.

It is impossible to understand how muffling criticism from civil servants and the heads of state enterprises is supposed to enhance transparency.  This is no mere advice on good behaviour since the document ends by stating that for breaches of the Rules, a person will face disciplinary measures “in accordance with the law”.

A spokesman for the Raleigh Police Protective Association said Tuesday that he and his team are fully supporting the actions of a Raleigh police officer who was involved in a fatal shooting Monday afternoon.

Senior Officer D.C. Twiddy shot and killed a drug suspect fleeing arrest near the intersection of Bragg and East streets, Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown said.

The State Bureau of Investigation, which is reviewing the shooting, identified the victim as 24-year-old Akiel Rakim Lakeith Denkins of Raleigh.

Denkins, who was black, had been convicted three times on drug offenses, according to the state Department of Public Safety. There were pending charges against him from last fall of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and probation violations.

I think this may be the most important economics piece I ever write.  This came to me at Mass as I was thinking about Monetary Theory and how to explain to folks why it is that we have not had Weimar Republic/Zimbabwe-like hyperinflation given the massive, unprecedented money and debt creation by the Washington D.C. and European banker-oligarch regimes over the past decade. The realization made me gasp audibly.

First, the question.  Why HASN’T there been hyperinflation?  Why ISN’T a loaf of bread $100,000 by now?

The answer, which I did know, even from my ridiculously bad college days of Keynesian drivel, is because the VELOCITY of money is very, very low.

INFLATION is defined by the equation MV = PQ.  Now stay with me, because this is actually really easy to understand.

Black lives matter. Or so we’re told. The left gets enraged when you put their rhetoric into context. Nationwide, #BlackLivesMatter leaders decry the tragic deaths of unarmed black lives at the hands of what is sometimes accurately called police brutality. In 2014, there were a total of 444 reported “unarmed deaths” according to the FBI (labeled as “justifiable homicides” with no racial/ethnic specifics). Yet over 330,000 deaths of unarmed black lives in the womb happen every year due to abortion brutality and this movement embraces the violence as “reproductive justice.”

Famed voting rights and anti-poverty activist, Fannie Lou Hamer, considered abortion a “genocide among black people.”

Hamer, who was passionately prolife and an adoptive mother, would hammer today’s racially divisive #BlackLivesMatter movement that willingly supports the most institutionalized form of racism—population control (aka abortion).

The Great Illusion of the two-party system is that it allows the voter a choice – usually between a liberal and a conservative government. The reality is that, whichever party wins the election, the government is, in truth, a totalitarian one. The “choice” is a mere distraction from the true objective.

The ceasefire in Syria is a joke.  Turkish military units continue to mass along the border, and militants are pouring across the border to attack targets in northern Syria.  The Prime Minister of Turkey is now openly admitting that his government is supporting the militants that are trying to overthrow the Syrian government, and the Turkish government has also made it abundantly clear that they have no plans to stop shelling the Kurds on the other side of the border.  So despite the “ceasefire”, the truth is that the threat of World War 3 breaking out in the Middle East is greater than ever.

At times it is difficult to see the dividing line between the Turkish military and the radical jihadists that are hopping back and forth across the border with the full support of the Turkish government.  Over the weekend, militants from Turkey that crossed over into northern Syria were supported by artillery fire from the Turkish military as they attacked a key Kurdish town…

In the Raqqa province, a group of some 100 fighters crossed into Syria from Turkey. The group later joined forces with other militants and attacked the Kurdish town of Tell Abyad.
