North Carolina authorities have announced a ban on all sales of live poultry, effective beginning August 15, 2015. The ban also applies to public livestock shows and poultry sales, such as the poultry exhibit at the North Carolina State Fair, which traditionally takes place each October.

The ban was prompted by the avian flu epidemic, which has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 50 million birds in the United States, and although North Carolina has not yet been affected, authorities fear that the disease may spread to the Southeast region when the annual waterfowl migration begins in the fall.

The H5N2 strain of the avian flu virus has infected birds in 21 states so far, and N.C. officials are wary of the possibility of its spread to their own state, which is the nation’s fourth-biggest producer of chickens raised for meat and the third-largest turkey producer. The poultry industry in North Carolina is worth $18 billion, according to State Veterinarian Doug Meckes, who made the decision to enact the ban.

In an interview, Meckes was quoted as saying:

“There’s a significant likelihood that it will come to North Carolina. It’s a significant threat to our industry.”

While the confederate flag has been removed from the state house grounds in South Carolina, the debate over the fate of the flag in federal cemeteries continues.

The decision to remove the flag from the confederate memorial in South Carolina came out weeks after nine church members from Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina were killed during a bible study.

In an interview Friday to air Sunday on Face the Nation, House Speaker John Boehner weighed in on the controversy over the flag flying over statehouse grounds.

“It was a great example of people of faith using their faith to heal, rather than to divide,” he said, in applauding the people of South Carolina’s actions.

But Congress failed to reach an agreement to remove the flag from national cemeteries and the House Leadership had to pull a bill because the debate became heated quickly and instead, the Speaker suggested a panel be formed to study the issue.

“It was beginning to become a political football. And I just thought it was time to stop. Let’s have a discussion with responsible members of Congress to try to bring some resolution this,” Boehner said.

On July 9^th, 1868, a monumental shift happened in the legal landscape. Slavery had just been abolished by the 13^th Amendment as an institution three years prior, and now black people were finally being recognized as humans and citizens by the law. Of course, no one needs a law to affirm anyone’s humanity, but I’m glad as a person with mocha brown skin that legislation caught up with common sense.

But sadly, the 14^th Amendment has been a victim of deteriorating common sense in this country allowing nearly everything to become legal under this race-based Reconstruction Amendment.

Due process. Equal protection under the law. These two phrases have become both a battering ram for judicial activists to obliterate our actual Constitutional freedoms and a magic wand to conjure up “rights” out of thin air. Federal judges are quite adept at this abuse. The Supreme Court, at least the majority of it, has mastered the art of Constitutional mutilation.

Russia is emerging as a new strategic nuclear threat to the United States, a senior member of the House Committee on Armed Services revealed on Wednesday.

“On the nuclear deterrence front, we likely have more cause for concern today than at any point since the Soviet Union collapsed — with a swift kick from the policies of Ronald Reagan,” said Rep. Mike Rogers, Alabama Republican and chairman of the subcommittee on strategic forces.

Unlike Germany and Japan, which were converted from enemies to friends after World War II, Russia has not followed a similar model.

Don’t let anyone tell you that crime is going down in America.  All over the United States, rates of violent crime in our major cities are increasing by double digit percentages.  Murders are way up, shootings are way up and rapes are way up.  So what is behind this sudden spike in crime?  In Baltimore, authorities are pointing to the racial tensions that were stirred up by the riots that erupted in protest to the death of Freddie Gray.  But what about the rest of the country?  From coast to coast, we are witnessing a dramatic increase in violent crime, and the economy is not even crashing yet.  So what is going to happen when the next great economic crisis hits us, unemployment skyrockets, and people really start hurting?

When I was surveying the news today, I was very surprised to learn that the murder rate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has more than doubled so far this year…

Milwaukee, which had one of its lowest annual homicide totals in city history last year, has recorded 84 murders so far this year,more than double the 41 it tallied at the same point last year.

And of course Milwaukee is far from alone.  All over the U.S., violent crime is jumping dramatically.  Here is more from USA Today…
