The top U.S. general says the military option to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains “intact” despite Russia’s decision to supply the Islamic Republic with surface-to-air S-300 missiles.

Speaking at a news conference on April 16, General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, said, ‘The military option that I owe the president to both encourage a diplomatic solution and if the diplomacy fails to ensure that Iran does not achieve a nuclear weapon is intact.’

Dempsey suggested that the delivery of the Russian missile defense system won’t affect the United States’ ability to strike at Iran’s nuclear facilities if necessary.

‘We’ve known about the potential for that system to be sold to Iran for several years and have accounted for it in all of our planning,’ he said.

The Air Force confirmed this week that it is shuttering a vital airlift wing at Fort Bragg, N.C., that trains the Army’s airborne and special operations forces, prompting outrage from the state’s lawmakers.

The Air Force finally submitted on Tuesday its “Report on C-130 Force Structure” to Congress after its release had been delayed since January. Units such as the 440th Airlift Wing at Fort Bragg’s Pope Army Airfield fly the C-130s to prepare airborne forces for emergency operations overseas.

The report affirmed that the Air Force would close the 440th, which it said would save $116 million during a time of severe budget constraints for the military. Lawmakers raised concerns last year when the Air Force began transferring airmen from the reserve unit before providing the report to Congress.

Balkans: Czech man claims to establish ‘new state’

President Vladimir Putin sternly urged the West to respect Russia’s interests in global affairs and defended his move to sanction the delivery of a long-range air defense missile system to Iran during a marathon TV call-in show with the nation.

He also described the killing of top Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov as “tragic and shameful” and said he wasn’t certain if the Russian law-enforcement agencies would be able to track down those who organized the attack.

He focused heavily on economic issues, saying the nation’s economic performance has remained strong, despite Western sanctions slapped on Russia over the Ukrainian crisis and a slump in global oil prices. He pointed at the ruble’s recovery as a sign of a renewed investor confidence in Russia.

Levin then, following his intro, chastised the Republican-led Senate again saying, “United States Senate, just rewrote the treaty provision of the Constitution.”

“It just rewrote the treaty provision of the Constitution,” Levin continued, “which is what I talk about all the time, how these people in Washington D.C. usurp the Constitution all the time.”

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A Florida man believed to be high on flakka, a drug that authorities say is sweeping the state, attacked a Brevard police officer after twice being shocked with a Taser while he repeatedly saying he was God, according to officials.

Kenneth Crowder, 41, of Melbourne, was arrested Friday on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence and assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer.

According to a Melbourne police report, Crowder was spotted by witnesses running naked through a Melbourne neighborhood, yelling that he was a god before committing a sexual act on a tree.
