China Takes Aim At Dollar Reserve Status: Promotes Yuan In Investment Bank

As regular readers know, we’ve variously described the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank as representing both an attempt by China to cement its regional dominance by implicitly adopting a sino-Monroe Doctrine, as indicative of Beijing’s desire to supplant to US-dominated multinational institutions that have been a fixture of the post WWII economic world order, and, perhaps most importantly, as a not-so-subtle indication that dollar hegemony may be on the way out and yuan hegemony may be around the corner.

Essentially the AIIB will (either intentionally or unintentionally depending on who you believe) serve as an instrument of Chinese foreign policy and any hope of keeping this between the people who are privy to the country’s various hidden agendas (because all countries have agendas), went out the window early last month when the UK staged a coup by breaking with Washington and joining the development bank triggering a flood of applications from Western countries and culminating in membership bids from US “allies” Australia, Israel, and even Canada. Adding insult to injury, the AIIB is now looking to hire officials away from the World Bank and rival ADB.

Amid the March membership frenzy, Beijing sought to play down the degree to which the venture would serve to help establish a new world economic order with China at the helm. An article which appeared in The Global Times (a paper run by the state-controlled People’s Daily) very specifically denied any notion that China has designed on establishing a yuan-based global economic system. Here’s an excerpt:

The establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has been depicted by a few overseas media outlets as if China is building its own version of the Bretton Woods system...

Some foreign observers claim that the AIIB is the beginning of the Chinese yuan’s hegemony. What they are actually trying to imply is that “China is another US.”

This kind of statement is nonsensical, which uses historical experience to fool readers. It is divorced from the truth and shows no common sense and doesn’t stand up to any scrutiny.

Through the Bretton Woods system, the US was able to wield supreme influence over its allies which had been severely battered during the war. China today is in a totally different position.

The AIIB will not confront the WB or IMF, nor will it turn the current international monetary order upside down. The spirit of the AIIB is diversity and justice.

Simon Black: I believe we have a moral obligation to starve the beast

IRS-Tax-Imprisonment

Politicians continue to spend money with a dangerous sense of entitlement.

They believe that since they’re “America” they can do whatever they want without consequence, as if the laws of the financial universe don’t apply.

And their judgement is clearly lacking.

They already borrow money and go deeper into debt just to pay the interest on the debt they already owe.

And yet they continue to spend, often on the most destructive things like bombs, drones, and war.

They throw money at failed programs. They hire armies of bureaucrats who make life more difficult for productive citizens. And they equip legions of police and armed enforcers to intimidate the population into submission.

All of this is ultimately supported by taxes. Your taxes.

You see, the creditworthiness of any nation is underpinned by its ability to raise and collect taxes.

If investors feel like a government has an intimidating-enough system of taxation that can bully citizens into compliance, they feel comfortable loaning a government money.

It’s a very simple calculus: when the US government goes into debt, YOU are the collateral.

Protesters gather in Oregon to defend gold miners in dispute with government agency

GRANTS PASS, Oregon — Some local constitutional activists have gathered in southern Oregon to support gold miners in a dispute with the federal government.

The Grants Pass Daily Courier ( ) reported that about a dozen people, some dressed in military gear and carrying guns, were milling about a rural property outside Grants Pass on Monday. A sign at the end of the driveway said they were the Josephine County Oath Keepers.

Group spokeswoman Mary Emerick says they also had people at the mining claim, located on federal land outside the community of Galice. She says they are defending constitutional rights.

“Our mission is simply to make sure that the mine owners constitutional, Fifth Amendment rights are in place— the right to due process,” she told the Mail Tribune newspaper in Medford. “If this resolves itself tomorrow, we’re ready to pack up and leave, but we’re prepared (for the long term).”

Turkey Hacks The Official Vatican Website, And Shuts It Down, In Order To Take Revenge On Pope Francis

Image result for pope francis armenian genocide

Turkish hackers hacked the official Vatican website and actually managed to shut it down. The hacking was done as an act of revenge against Pope Francis for his exposing of the Armenian Genocide.

According to one report:

The hacker said that the Pope’s comments were “unacceptable” for a respected religious figurehead. “Taking sides and calling what happened with the Armenians genocide is not true […] We want Pope [Francis] to apologise for his words or we will make sure the website remains offline,” he added.

The site was restored within a number of hours, however according to the apparent perpetrator the main server remained offline.

Turkish hacking groups are not the only community looking to target the Vatican over the Pope’s recent comments. Both the Turkish and Armenian government have even expressed their upset. Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu argued that the statement was “out of touch with both historical facts and legal basis.”

“Religious offices are not places through which hatred and animosity are fuelled by unfounded allegations,” he added.

CONSERVATIVE ECONOMIST FRANK ROCHE LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO UNSEAT CONGRESSWOMAN RENEE ELLMERS

Frank Roche, a Cary economist, conservative, and well known figure in North Carolina’s Tea Party movement, has officially launched his bid to challenge fellow Republican, Congresswoman Renee Ellmers, for North Carolina’s Second District seat.

“Congresswoman Ellmers has betrayed the conservatives of the Second District by repeatedly voting to increase federal spending, increase the debt ceiling, and even voting to fund President Obama’s unconstitutional executive amnesty. Washington is broken and the people of the Second District want Bold Conservative Leadership to stand up to the progressives in both parties, not a go-along-to-get-along politician like Renee Ellmers,” Roche said.

Roche began his effort to unseat Congresswoman Renee Ellmers during the 2014 Republican Primary. With less than four months to campaign and only $50,000 raised, Frank Roche beat every expectation by earning the support of 41% of the voters in the Second District. Falling short of defeating the establishment back incumbent by just over 3,000 votes.

“We’ve assembled a campaign team which will give us the necessary tools and expertise to complete the mission we started a little over a year ago. Building on the outstanding effort we put forth in 2014, our team will be focused on improving our fundraising operation and implementing a robust voter contact operation that will lead our grassroots campaign to conservative victory,” said Roche.

Frank Roche is a Cary economist, radio host, and commentator on the Fox Business Network. A well known figure in North Carolina’s Tea Party movement, Frank Roche is the anti-establishment candidate running to bring Bold Conservative Leadership to North Carolina’s Second District.

Opportunities to speak with the candidate are available for members of the media upon request. Please contact Campaign Manager, Spencer Hardison, at (919) 794-7401 or email press@rocheforcongress.com with questions.

Why Is WalMart Mysteriously Shuttering Stores Nationwide For “Plumbing Issues”?

BRANDON, Fla. – Employees of a Walmart in Brandon that abruptly closed Monday were among more than 2,000 employees nationwide who learned almost simultaneously they were being laid off.

In a nearly identical manner at every store, Walmart corporate officials visited the five locations, called an impromptu meeting in the back of the store and told employees that the stores would be closing that evening.

Besides Brandon, the affected locations were in Pico Rivera, Calif., Livingston, Texas, Midland, Texas, Tulsa, Okla.

“The issues mostly relate to clogs and water leaks in the plumbing – we’ve had persistent issues over the last several years,“ said a Walmart spokesperson said.

“These incidents impact the availability of water and create drainage issues for critical areas of the store which impacts our ability to serve customers,” she said.

“Normally, we do our best to avoid disrupting a store’s operations. However, given this particular store had one of the highest incidences of plumbing issues in the entire fleet and in order to reduce the costs associated with these incidents, we felt it was in the store’s best interest to invest in making the necessary improvements to resolve these issues,” the spokesperson said.

The I-Team has learned that none of the five affected stores have sought any plumbing permits for future repairs.

Sexual Madness in Obama’s America

The headline over the story is, “LGBT Friendly: White House Unveils First Gender-Neutral Bathroom.” But it’s not a joke. It wasn’t a story from the comedy site The Onion. Instead, this was from NBC News.

It is apparent that the liberal media will treat anything “gay” coming out of this administration as somehow legitimate or even compassionate. Nothing will be described as weird or strange, out of fear of offending some new sexual minority. This time, the “transgendered” are supposed to benefit. It’s yet another effort to confuse sexual roles and undermine traditional values.

NBC reported, “For the first time in history, the White House has designated a gender-neutral restroom for visitors and staffers—the latest in a series of steps the administration has taken to protect the rights of members of the LGBT community.”

North Korea Transfers Missile Goods to Iran During Nuclear Talks

Intelligence suppressed by Obama administration

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, right, welcomes North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su Yong, for a meeting in Tehran, Iran, Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014

North Korea supplied several shipments of missile components to Iran during recent nuclear talks and the transfers appear to violate United Nations sanctions on both countries, according to U.S. intelligence officials.

Since September more than two shipments of missile parts have been monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies as they transited from North Korea to Iran, said officials familiar with intelligence reports who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Details of the arms shipments were included in President Obama’s daily intelligence briefings and officials suggested information about the transfers was kept secret from the United Nations, which is in charge of monitoring sanctions violations.

Critics of the U.S.-led nuclear framework agreement reached in Switzerland earlier this month have said one major deficiency of the accord is its failure to address Iran’s missile program, considered a key nuclear delivery system for the Islamist regime.

CIA spokesman Ryan Trapani declined to comment on the missile component shipments, citing a policy of not discussing classified information.

NRA Negotiating Rights Away. Cynical Secret “Deal With The Devil” Confirmed

Sipsey Street Irregulars can now confirm the broad outlines of a story first disclosed two days ago by National Gun Rights Examiner columnist David Codrea. Last week, a secret deal involving the National Rifle Association lobbying arm and brokered by politicians of both national political parties was struck in Washington DC that would save the ATF from the political and legal consequences of its own regulatory errors. In the process, this deal would broaden the language of the 1968 Gun Control Act regarding “sporting purposes” and allow ATF to extract itself from the potentially catastrophic political damage of enforcing its arbitrary ruling that makes every owner of a pistol grip 12 Gauge shotgun like the Mossberg Cruiser a felon in possession of a “destructive device” subject to the penalties of the National Firearms Act of 1934 — currently up to 10 years in federal prison and a quarter million dollar fine.

According to sources well-familiar with the legislative rationale and ever-changing and even contradictory regulatory history of the ATF, this crisis for the agency was self-inflicted and precipitated by two legal cases wending their way through the federal courts in Texas and Pennsylvania. Said one, “The ATF doesn’t dare reverse itself unilaterally once again on what does and does not constitute a shotgun ‘destructive device.’ They are frightened to death that either case may go to discovery and reveal their whole sorry rule-making mess.” Said another, “There are people currently rotting in federal prison on NFA violations and others walking around scot-free. At some point, unless the Congress gives them the cover by changing the law, they are going to have to explain that in open court.”

As explained by sources here and in the nation’s capitol, the outlines of what one called “this cynical deal with the Devil” are as follows:

The Six Too Big To Fail Banks In The U.S. Have 278 TRILLION Dollars Of Exposure To Derivatives

Bankers - Public DomainThe very same people that caused the last economic crisis have created a 278 TRILLION dollar derivatives time bomb that could go off at any moment.  When this absolutely colossal bubble does implode, we are going to be faced with the worst economic crash in the history of the United States.  During the last financial crisis, our politicians promised us that they would make sure that “too big to fail” would never be a problem again.  Instead, as you will see below, those banks have actually gotten far larger since then.  So now we really can’t afford for them to fail.  The six banks that I am talking about are JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo.  When you add up all of their exposure to derivatives, it comes to a grand total of more than 278 trillion dollars.  But when you add up all of the assets of all six banks combined, it only comes to a grand total of about 9.8 trillion dollars.  In other words, these “too big to fail” banks have exposure to derivatives that is more than 28 times greater than their total assets.  This is complete and utter insanity, and yet nobody seems too alarmed about it.  For the moment, those banks are still making lots of money and funding the campaigns of our most prominent politicians.  Right now there is no incentive for them to stop their incredibly reckless gambling so they are just going to keep on doing it.

So precisely what are “derivatives”?  Well, they can be immensely complicated, but I like to simplify things.  On a very basic level, a “derivative” is not an investment in anything.  When you buy a stock, you are purchasing an ownership interest in a company.  When you buy a bond, you are purchasing the debt of a company.  But a derivative is quite different.  In essence, most derivatives are simply bets about what will or will not happen in the future.  The big banks have transformed Wall Street into the biggest casino in the history of the planet, and when things are running smoothly they usually make a whole lot of money.

But there is a fundamental flaw in the system, and I described this in a previous article

Obama to lift Cuba from list of terrorist sponsors

US President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro shake hands during their meeting at the Summit of the Americas in Panama City, Panama, Saturday, April 11, 2015. The leaders of the United States and Cuba held their first formal meeting in more than half a century on Saturday, clearing the way for a normalization of relations that had seemed unthinkable to both Cubans and Americans for generations. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)

As expected, President Obama Tuesday said he is removing Cuba from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, paving the way for both countries to restore diplomatic relations.

Mr. Obama notified Congress Tuesday afternoon of his intent to rescind Cuba’s designation, saying Havana has not provided any support for international terrorism in the preceding six months, and has assured the U.S. it will not support terrorism in the future.

An opponent of the policy shift, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, Florida Republican, said Mr. Obama “has demonstrated that his eagerness to capitulate to dictators has no bounds.”

Mr. Diaz-Balart said the Cuban regime ongoing terrorist activities include “extensive espionage activities, shoot-down of unarmed civilian aircraft in international waters, assistance to the Maduro regime in oppressing the opposition and subverting Venezuela’s democratic institutions, harboring members of terrorist organizations such as the FARC and ETA, harboring fugitives from U.S. justice including terrorists Joanne Chesimard and William Guillermo Morales, and weapons smuggling in violation of international sanctions.”
