FEMA Calls for 2015 Individual and Community Preparedness Awards Applications

Ready: Prepare. Plan. Stay Informed.

Submission Deadline: April 10, 2015

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is pleased to announce that the application period for the 2015 Individual and Community Preparedness Awards is now open.

These awards highlight innovative local practices and achievements by recognizing individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions toward making their communities safer, stronger, better prepared, and more resilient.

To be considered for this year’s awards, all applications must be sent to citizencorps@fema.dhs.gov by April 10, 2015 at 11:59 P.M. E.T. and must feature program activities occurring between January 1, 2014 and April 10, 2015. FEMA will review all entries and select the finalists.  A distinguished panel of representatives from the emergency management community will select winners in each of the following categories:

  • Outstanding Citizen Corps Council
  • Community Preparedness Heroes
  • Awareness to Action
  • Technological Innovation
  • Outstanding Achievement in Youth Preparedness
  • Preparing the Whole Community
  • Outstanding Community Emergency Response Team Initiatives
  • Outstanding Citizen Corps Partner Program
  • Excellence in Volunteer Sustainability

Winners will be announced in the fall of 2015 and they will be FEMA’s honored guests at a community preparedness roundtable event.

Emergency management is most effective when the whole community is engaged and involved. Faith-based organizations, voluntary agencies, the private sector, tribal organizations, youth, older adults, people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs, and other individual citizens can all make a difference in their communities before, during, and after disasters. Acknowledge the work you or someone you know has done to build a more resilient nation and apply TODAY!

SENATOR CLAIMS OBAMA TIED TO ISIS

A Maine Republican state senator is apologizing to his colleagues for a Facebook post suggesting President Obama’s family members are part of Islamic State, but he’s resisting Democrat calls for him to resign.

Sen. Michael Willette’s troubles began March 1 when he reposted a picture to his Facebook page critical of Obama.

“I’ve been very good over the last year and a half not posting things about Obama, but this one was too good to pass up. I promise this will be the last one for some time,” he commented when posting the image of Obama speaking into a microphone, appearing to say, “Why haven’t I done anything about ISIS? Because I’ll deal with them at the family reunion.”

The post, along with earlier ones publicized by a liberal blogger that reportedly expressed animosity to Muslims and accused members of the administration of being part of the Muslim Brotherhood, brought criticism from the state’s Democrat Party.

2 officers shot at protest outside Ferguson police station

Two officers were shot in front of the Ferguson Police Department early Thursday, authorities said, as demonstrators gathered after the resignation of the city’s police chief in the wake of a scathing Justice Department report alleging bias in the police department and court.

A 32-year-old officer from nearby Webster Groves was shot in the face and a 41-year-old officer from St. Louis County was shot in the shoulder, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said at a news conference. Both were taken to a hospital, where Belmar said they were conscious. He said he did not have further details about their conditions but described their injuries as “serious.”

Justice Department Protected Convicted Child Rapists

The Department of Justice (DOJ) protected 58 sex offenders, including convicted child rapists, in its witness protection program, according to an audit by the agency’s Office of Inspector General (OIG).

Until 2012, the U.S. Marshals Service, which administers the Federal Witness Security (WITSEC) Program, had no idea how many sex offenders it had admitted into the program.

By July 2014, the DOJ identified 58 individuals, who “at some point in time, had been admitted into the WITSEC Program.” Participants in the program are given a new identity, place to live, and a government stipend for 18 months.

“We identified several significant concerns related to the Department’s handling of known sex offenders who were once in the Program,” the OIG said in an audit released Wednesday. “Ten of the 58 sex offenders formerly in the Program were convicted sex offenders at the time of their admission into the Program.”

Consumer spending in the U.S. accounts for approximately 70 percent of gross domestic product, though it is important to note that the manner in which “official” GDP is calculated is highly inaccurate. For example, all government money used within the Medicare coverage system to pay for “consumer health demands,” as well as the now flailing Obamacare socialized welfare program, are counted toward GDP, despite the fact that such capital is created from thin air by the Federal Reserve and also generates debt for the average taxpayer. Government debt creation does not beget successful domestic production. If that was a reality, then all socialist and communist countries (same thing) would be wildly enriched today. This is simply not the case.

That said, the swift decline in manufacturing jobs in the U.S. over the past two decades, including a considerable 33 percent overall decline in manufacturing jobs from 2001 to 2010, leaves only the consumer and service sectors as the primary areas of employment and “production.” The service sector provides about three out of every four jobs available in America, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Moscow May “Deploy Nuclear Weapons In Crimea”

So much for the second Minsk ceasefire. A few hours ago, the US returned to its strategy of escalating Russian “costs” when it placed sanctions on eight Ukrainian separatists and a Russian bank, warning that recent attacks by rebels armed by Russia violated a European-brokered ceasefire in the war-torn country.

“If Russia continues to support destabilizing activity in Ukraine and violate the Minsk agreements and implementation plan, the already substantial costs it faces will continue to rise,” Adam Szubin, the Treasury Department’s acting undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said in a statement announcing the sanctions.

The Russian response to the latest sanction pending, but the response may have been hinted at earlier today when an official from Russia’s Foreign Ministery said the nation has the right to deploy nuclear arms in the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, however he added “he knew of no plans to do so.”

“I don’t know if there are nuclear weapons there now. I don’t know about any plans, but in principle Russia can do it,” said Mikhail Ulyanov, the head of the ministry’s department on arms control, was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.

And finally, indicating that the semi-hot escalation between the US and Russia is close to getting out of control, AP reported moments ago that Vice President Joe Biden told Ukraine’s president Wednesday the U.S. will send more aid to the country, which U.S. officials said will include small drones and armored Humvees.

Tsipras Slams “Crimes Of Third Reich And Hitler’s Hordes”, Threatens Seizure Of German Assets

Earlier today, despite fears that it may not find enough cash to fund its latest T-Bill rollover, Greece was able to sell €1.3 billion of three-month Treasury bills, covering the amount it wanted to refinance a maturing issue, in what Reuters dubbed was an “auction that tested its ability to raise funds amid a cash crunch.” The paper came at a higher cost as the T-bills were priced to yield 2.70 percent, up 20 basis points from 2.50 percent in a previous sale in February, the country’s debt agency PDMA said.

However, this latest funding appears to have brought Greek funds to a critical low level because roughly at the same time news broke that Greek Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos said he is ready to sign an older court ruling that will enable the foreclosure of German assets in Greece in order to compensate the relatives of victims of Nazi crimes during the Second World War.

As Kathimerini reports, Greece’s Supreme Court ruled in favor of Distomo survivors in 2000, but the decision has not been enforced. Distomo, a small village in central Greece, lost 218 lives in a Nazi massacre in 1944.

In a Friday sermon, Ismail Al-Wahwah, spokesman for the Australian chapter of Hizb ut-Tahrir, said: “The Jews are the most evil creatures of Allah. Moral corruption is linked to the Jews.” He further said: “There is only one solution for that cancerous tumor: It must be uprooted and thrown back to where it came from.” The video was posted on the Internet on March 3 by the Hizb ut-Tahrir channel.

Thoughts on the “Armor Piercing Ammunition” Reversal

Many people are celebrating a victory today concerning the BATFE’s reversal of the ban on 62gr green tip ammunition. The effort expended to have the administration reverse an executive fiat that would not stand up in court was impressive. But what if this was just a distraction. We must realize that this one battle will not win the war. The pResident will continue to attack the Constitution and the people on multiple levels.

Our weakest point is our honor. We believe in the Republic and the rule of law. This requires us to act defensively. As any soldier and strategist knows, wars are won offensively.

So the question is simple. If the Constitution and rule of law are no in place, what is our course of action?

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
