Obama announces funding for 50,000 police body cameras

In an announcement today, the White House has pledged $263 million in new federal funding for police training and body cameras, set aside by executive order. The money includes $75 million allocated specifically for the purchase of 50,000 cameras for law enforcement officers across the country. The training portion of the funds would go toward instructing police in the responsible use of paramilitary equipment like assault rifles and armored personnel carriers, much of which has flooded local departments as a result of a Homeland Security preparedness program. Additional funds will go to fund police outreach programs designed to build trust between local departments and the communities they serve.

Al-Qaeda Attacks Iranian Ambassador’s Residence in Yemen

Car explosion burning blast bomb

Al-Qaeda terrorists have claimed responsibility for a car bomb that killed three people at the Iranian ambassador’s residence in Yemen on Wednesday, Reuters reports.

Wednesday’s bombing, the second in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa claimed by Al-Qaeda in as many months, blew a large hole in the Iranian residence and sent rubble flying across the street of the well-guarded diplomatic quarter of the city, a witness said.

Ebola Spreading Faster in Sierra Leone

FILE -A healthcare worker dons protective gear before entering an Ebola treatment center in the west of Freetown, Sierra Leone, Oct. 16, 2014..

New data shows the Ebola outbreak intensifying in Sierra Leone, even as it stabilizes or drops off in other West African countries.

The World Health Organization says Sierra Leone reported 537 new confirmed cases in the week ending November 30, a jump of more than 150 over the week before.

In its latest update Wednesday, the WHO says “transmission remains persistent and intense across the country with the exception of the south.”  The worst affected area was the capital, Freetown, where more than 200 new cases were reported.

According to the WHO, the number of Ebola cases worldwide is more than 17,000, with all but a few dozen in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.  The overall death toll is up to 6,070.

The Ferguson Conundrum Solved By Community Security

by Brandon Smith

Many times in the past I have discussed the concept of what I call the “non-participation principle,” but often people misinterpret what “non-participation” really entails. Such a strategy does not mean an individual activist or group simply refuses to support the system by not using Federal Reserve notes, or not paying taxes, or not buying Monsanto-generated frankenfoods. That kind of thing is all well and good, but ultimately, non-participation means TAKING away power from the corrupt political and financial elite. Sometimes, this is done through force of arms — but not always in the way some might believe.

One-dimensional tactics are often more dangerous to the activist group fighting for freedom than they are for the power oligarchy, and I see them promoted all the time. How often have you heard some idiot (or paid provocateur) rambling about a march on Washington, D.C., to “arrest the criminals” (the criminals in D.C. are middlemen as replaceable as lawnmower parts, not that a blind march into the mouth of the beast would accomplish anything anyway). What about the insane and historically ill conceived option of military coup? What about random violence against random targets, forsaking the very principles by which our movement sustains itself? Even if a movement “wins” in such a way, it still loses after becoming the monster it sought to destroy.

How about the opposite end of the spectrum? People call on the liberty movement to buy useless, ethereal bitcoins, or chant slogans on street corners in docility while being doused with pepper spray. Activists regurgitate the “reach, teach, and inspire” mantra without acknowledging that concrete action and legitimate risk are often the MOST inspiring paths that can be undertaken. What about those people who actually argue that we need to “reason” with the psychopaths running our infrastructure and show them the error of their ways (which is much like trying to debate with a shark on why you are not as tasty as you appear)?

All of these tactics culminate in a zero-point game of make-believe revolution. They not only accomplish nothing, they actually distract the movement from pursuing more tangible and effective methods.

The non-participation principle could be summed up as follows:

How to Start a Civil War

I must be missing something. Tell me why Eric Garner is dead. Tell me why there were no charges filed. If the government wants to incite a bottom up revolt to institute top down martial law, they are well on their way. That or they actually want Civil War II.

Ferguson 2.0? Grand Jury Fails To Indict White NYPD Cop In Chokehold-Death Case

A Staten Island grand jury has decided not to indict white NYPD officer Daniel Panateleo, according to NY1, who allegedly used a banned chokehold and killed Eric Garner, a 400lb black man, who was stopped on suspicion of selling loose cigarettes. Eric Garner’s son has called for peace and hopes there is no Ferguson-like response…

US Army Sends 100 Tanks To Eastern Europe To “Deter Russian Aggression”

The ink on Barack Obama’s Chuck Hagel termination letter hasn’t dried yet but already the US president’s new, and seemingly far more hawkish advisors, are having their warmongering presence felt. Case in point: the Eastern European theater of (Cold) war, where Military.com reports that the new Army commander in Europe plans to bolster the U.S. armored presence in Poland and the Baltic states and keep rotations of U.S. troops there through next year and possibly beyond to counter Russia. Lt. Gen. Frederick “Ben” Hodges, who replaced Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell  earlier this month as commander of U.S. Army Europe, said the Army was looking to add about 100 Abrams tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles to the forces in Eastern Europe.

Everything Else Is a Diversion

oil-wars

As usual, we are given crisis after crisis to divert our attention from what we really need to follow. While Ferguson, the $18 trillion national debt and poor Christmas sales occupy our news cycle, the reality of falling oil (and other commodities) should have our complete focus.

Most people believe the falling price of oil is a Christmas present. But for Russia and Iran, it means the distinct possibility of economic collapse. Their only option is war.

The price of oil also signifies the complete demise of US shale oil production. No one can operate at a loss and our “energy independence” has become a pipe dream.

Falling Oil Prices Could Cripple ‘Vulnerable’ Russia, Trigger World War III

The Cold War 2.0 is going hot, and while it may someday be fought with planes, tanks, guns and bombs, the first front is being fought with oil and shale gas.

The U.S. and European sanctions against Russia will become more severe and crippling in the face of drastically falling oil prices – prices which are falling drastically because of the unprecedented boom of shale gas fracking both domestically in the U.S. and abroad in Ukraine and other locales. The oil & gas giants like Chevron and Exxon Mobil have created revolutionary conditions with now direct consequences on U.S. foreign policy and global war for dominance.
