Most People Cannot Even Imagine That An Economic Collapse Is Coming

Thinking - Public Domain

The idea that the United States is on the brink of a horrifying economic crash is absolutely inconceivable to most Americans.  After all, the economy has been relatively stable for quite a few years and the stock market continues to surge to new heights.  On Friday, the Dow and the S&P 500 both closed at brand new all-time record highs.  For the year, the S&P 500 is now up 9 percent and the Nasdaq is now up close to 11 percent.  And American consumers are getting ready to spend more than 600 billion dollars this Christmas season.  That is an amount of money that is larger than the entire economy of Sweden.  So how in the world can anyone be talking about economic collapse?  Yes, many will concede, we had a few bumps in the road back in 2008 but things have pretty much gotten back to normal since then.  Why be concerned about economic collapse when there is so much stability all around us?

Unfortunately, this brief period of stability that we have been enjoying is just an illusion.

The fundamental problems that caused the financial crisis of 2008 have not been fixed.  In fact, most of our long-term economic problems have gotten even worse.

But most Americans have such short attention spans these days.  In a world where we are accustomed to getting everything instantly, news cycles only last for 48 hours and 2008 might as well be an eternity ago.

Fresh Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone raises fears of new infection chain

A family home under quarantine in the Port Loko district of Sierra Leone, where the Ebola outbreak is widespread.

A fresh outbreak of Ebola in a part of Sierra Leone where the virus was thought to have been contained has raised fears of a new, uncontrolled infection chain that could send the death toll soaring.

A Red Cross ambulance team was sent to the remote district of Koinadugu, which had prided itself on being the only area to have kept Ebola at bay, from on Tuesday to urgently collect 30 corpses for medical burial.

The outbreak is a major setback for the Ebola response force and the district, which two weeks ago remained resolved to control the spread of the virus that has officially infected 5,338 people and claimed 1,510 lives in the country.

White Privilege: Aiding in the Fundamental Transformation of America : PatriotUpdate.com #patriotupdate @patriotupdate

“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others were cowards and hypocrites. They never had the courage to recognize their motives. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. How does one man assert his power over another? By making him suffer. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own? Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation. Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing. In our world, there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement A world of fear and treachery and torment. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face. Forever.”

Democrat Desperation – Phase II

Democrats are fighting on in tight races all over the country, and that’s only possible because of your help.

But with Election Day coming up tomorrow, right now is your time to make your biggest impact by getting out the vote, so Democrats can win crucial elections.

So I’m calling on you one more time.

Confirm your polling place, then forward this email to three friends and help them make a plan to vote.

We need to do everything we can to ensure that all our friends and family members make it to the polls, stay in line, and cast their ballots so Barack and Democrats like him can keep moving this country forward.

Please share this polling place lookup tool with all of your networks — aside from voting yourself, it’s one of the most important things you can do to help Democrats win big tomorrow:

Patient at Duke Hospital being monitored for possible Ebola

Update:

Duke Hospital patient tests negative for Ebola

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is monitoring a patient at Duke University Hospital who traveled from Liberia and has developed a fever.

Officials said the patient departed Liberia and arrived Friday at Newark (NJ) Liberty International Airport, which is one of five airports in the nation that has begun screening travelers from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone for fever and other signs of illness linked to the Ebola virus.

The patient had no symptoms upon arrival and had no known exposure to Ebola while in Liberia, officials said.

The patient, whose age and gender were not released, arrived in Person County on Saturday and developed a fever Sunday. The person was transferred to Duke University Hospital in Durham “using the appropriate health and safety protocols,”officials said in a statement.

The Consequences of the pResident’s Illegal Open Borders Policy

Enterovirus D68/CDC

While our attention was diverted from the Ebola epidemic, enterovirus D68 has now infected people in 47 states. The pResident’s policy to have open borders continues to allow diseases (and terrorists) into our country unchecked. As always, we only have to ask “why”? And then we have to ask why we let our “leaders” use us for political pawns in their own Game of Thrones.

Enterovirus D68 cases in the US top 1,000

Since the late summer, the United States and Canada have experienced an outbreak of enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) that has been linked to  severe respiratory illness, including several deaths.

In the US, the number of confirmed cases topped 1,000, according to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data. From mid-August to October 27, 2014, CDC or state publichealth laboratories have confirmed a total of 1,035 people in 47 states and the District of Columbia with respiratory illness caused by EV-D68. Only Nevada, Alaska and Hawaii have yet to report a confirmed case.

Of the more than 2,000 specimens the CDC has assayed, about half have tested positive for EV-D68, and about a third have tested positive for a different enterovirus or a rhinovirus.

He who hesitates is lost

“He who hesitates is lost — swift and resolute action leads to success; self-doubt is a prelude to disaster.” This proverb was first penned by English essayist Joseph Addison (1 May 1672 – 17 June 1719). If this saying rang true back in the 16th century, it is certainly an even greater reality facing law enforcement today.

Every time a law enforcement officer straps on his firearm he does so with the knowledge that political correctness and the very real and present danger of losing his home, property, and accumulating a mountain of debt to stay out of prison is the reality he faces, should he have to protect himself. And if the cop is a white male and shoots a black, no matter how much of a dreg the suspect is, the officer will be excoriated by the liberal press, reviled by the community he is attempting to protect, and used as a ploy by race baiters to further their agenda.

A case in point is the recent shooting in Ferguson, Missouri. The people outlined above do not care: If the shooting was justified, whether the thug was obstructing traffic by walking in the middle of the street thereby creating the problem which led to his demise, or that he had just robbed a convenience store and then attacked the police officer. The cop be white – the thug be black – that is the only consideration to many within the black community and the bias media, struggling to find listeners and readers.

Fast forward to New York City and we have a man running toward four police officers brandishing a hatchet. The attacker, Zale Thompson is, or was, black — he is now dead. The fact that four police officers hesitated before shooting the attacker again proves the fear and apprehension these men in uniform experienced when faced with using their weapons against a black man. That momentary hesitancy caused a severe injury to one of the officers and a wound to another.

Certainly no rational individual wants law enforcement to indiscriminately kill anyone without due cause. However, when protecting one’s own life is not considered due cause, we face a tremendous problem in this country. The current atmosphere of trepidation places every law enforcement officer at greater risk than the job itself.

Then to exacerbate the problem, we have law enforcement hierarchy making dumb statements to the media. Case in point: August 20, 2014, CNN Tonight — the sheriff of Gadsden County Florida stated, “You have some [cops] who want to get in the business for, you know, to shoot and kill.” How does Sheriff Young know that? If he really suspects that one of his officers has an urge to shoot someone – why on earth did he hire him or keep him on the force? And if he has an officer on the force that enjoys shooting people – why does he keep him on the force? And if he has no first-hand knowledge – why the verbal diarrhea? It would seem that the qualification for being a sheriff in the Deep South does not demand more than a room-temperature IQ. And for the uninformed: Yes, Gadsden County, Florida is more South Georgia than it is Florida – only the state-line makes the distinction.

Then we have President Obama’s new chum, the Right Reverend Minster Alfred Sharpton, who never misses an opportunity to make a bad situation worse by fomenting racial division. Sharpton does however, give us hope; if he can host a television program then every journalism student should feel that he too can get paid to stand in front of a camera. Sharpton is to journalism what Debbie Wasserman Shultz is to political civility and common-sense.

Back to the point at hand: Law enforcement is restricted by the same handcuffs that they use on criminals. They cannot stop anyone without fear of being accused of violating their civil rights. They cannot search anyone they encounter on the street because they would be violating that individual’s Fourth Amendment rights regarding “unreasonable searches and seizures.” Nor is law enforcement allowed to monitor radical Mosques — it wouldn’t be prudent.

We don’t want to offend followers of Islam so we do not distinguish between young Muslims and white-haired grandmothers. Even though young Muslims have caused almost all the destruction to America and its innocence during the past few decades and grandmothers merely want to spoil their grand-kids.

This week a black police officer in our little community in Florida killed an unarmed black mental patient — the circumstances seem to mirror the Ferguson, MO incident. I wonder when Alfred and Jesse will show up?

America’s biggest problem is that it can’t get out of its own way.

Have a good week. Bill Shuey is a freelance writer from North Carolina.

A Reality Check

For those who are gloating on the new records set on Wall Street and the collapse of gold:

JP Morgan:  $78 TRILLION in derivatives / $1.8 Trillion in assets
Citibank: $56 TRILLION in derivatives / $1.2 Trillion in assets
Bank of America:  $53 TRILLION in derivatives / $1.5 Trillion in assets
Goldman Sachs (aka US Government): $48 TRILLION in derivatives / $89 BILLION in assets

That is only four banks. We all know that this will end badly. Except for those grounded in fantasy.
