HFT Debate Battle

The clearly agitated BATS CEO came out swinging, blasting Katsuyama and Lewis “Shame On You,” for apparently telling the truth of what occurs in the stock ‘market and letting everyone in on it’. The tension grows when he presses Katsuyama on whether he really believes it is rigged… who then erupts “I believe the markets are rigged.. and that you are a part of the rigging.” Then the gloves come off “you wanna do this, let’s do this!” and then it got worse (or better)…

Just the first 3 minute round in this epic clip is worth the price of admission (and note the floor traders cheers in the background)… but to watch the status quo crushed under the awesome honesty of reality as this is all exposed, watch on…

Toddlers Know the Truth… Until They’re Talked out of It

FREEMANSPERSPECTIVE

toddlers

I’m hardly the first person to recognize that basic truths are more easily grasped by the young and the uneducated. For example, here’s a passage from a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to Peter Carr in 1787:

State a moral case to a plowman and a professor. The former will decide it as well, and often better than the latter, because he has not been led astray by artificial rules.

What we generally call “education” and “socialization” are mostly efforts to separate the young from what they know innately. They do know things innately and by simple self-reference. Those things should never be pulled away from them. We are to add to them and clarify them, not take them away.

What Toddlers Know

Toddlers may be ignorant of many things, but they understand basic elements of life quite clearly. And we can see that understanding in the three things we hear every toddler say, over and over:

Second Chinese Bond Company Defaults, First High Yield Bond Issuer

In the middle of 2012, to much yield chasing fanfare, China launched a private-placement market for high-yield bonds focusing on China’s small and medium companies, that in a liquidity glutted world promptly found a bevy of willing buyers, mostly using other people’s money. Less than two years later, the first of many pipers has come demanding payment, when overnight Xuzhou Zhongsen Tonghao New Board Co., a privately held Chinese building materials company, failed to pay interest on high-yield bonds, according to the 21st Century Business Herald.

The company located in the eastern province of Jiangsu, missed the 10 percent coupon payment due March 28 on the notes, which it sold 180 million yuan ($29 million) of last year in a private placement.

As predicted, once Chaori Solar opened the gates for China’s default superhighway two months ago, and the realization that China will no longer bail out any and everyone, the default deluge has begun.

The Chinese Are Acquiring Large Chunks Of Land In Communities All Over America

American Flag - Chinese FlagBy Michael Snyder

Has the United States ever experienced a time when a foreign nation has attempted to buy up so much of our land all at once?  As you will read about in this article, the Chinese are on a real estate buying spree all over America.  In fact, in some cases large chunks of land are actually being given to them.  Yes, you read that correctly.  China is on the way to becoming the dominant land owner in the entire country, and that is starting to alarm a lot of people.  Do we really want a foreign superpower to physically own so much of our territory?

There are some that are playing down this threat by making a distinction between the Chinese government and Chinese corporations, but things work differently over in China than they do here.  In China, the government is involved in everything.  In fact, 43 percent of all corporate profits in China are produced by companies that the Chinese government controls.  And all of the rest of the companies are very careful to follow the lead and direction of the Chinese government.

That is why what is going on in places such as Thomasville, Alabama is so alarming.  Small communities such as Thomasville are so starved for jobs that they are willing to give land away for free to Chinese companies in order to entice them to build factories…

Corrupt Politicians, Organized Crime, and Citizen Disarmament

Corrupt politicians are much more of a factor in large urban centers than in rural communities and small towns.    The same applies to organized crime.  it is associated with urban areas.   It is much harder for significant corruption to exist when the amounts are small, the people involved mostly know the politicians personally, and there are no large public works to play favorites with.   A significant exception might be planning and zoning, where local elites have great power, little accountability, and where significant money is at stake.

Corrupt politicians and organized crime figures hate the idea of an armed population.   When you are stealing, cheating, and extorting people on a daily basis, some of them are bound to take exception to it.  Push them far enough, and a few will decide to push back, even at the cost of their own lives.  Do it enough, and it becomes a near certainty.   It is much more difficult for corrupt politicians or organized crime to exist in the midst of an armed citizenry.  From Vanity Fair, the Reluctant Don, Sammy “the bull” Gravano:

“Gun control? It’s the best thing you can do for crooks and gangsters. I want you to have nothing. If I’m a bad guy, I’m always gonna have a gun. Safety locks? You pull the trigger with a lock on, and I’ll pull the trigger. We’ll see who wins.”

No Other King

christian mercenary

Occasionally in comments on this blog the link between Christianity and the Constitution arise. Inevitably, Romans Chapter 13 is referenced to bolster the excuse of Christians to remain safely out of the political arena. It allows them to throw their hands up and avoid political confrontation within the church, but Chuck Baldwin has done a masterful job of defining the truth (h/t Woody Creek Farmer).

As Baldwin points out, due to our unique political institution, the Constitution is our divinely sanctioned “leader” or “ruler.” We have no other king than God and our rights are not given to us by the Constitution, but by God and secured by ourselves through resistance to corruption and usurpation.

The church hates this reality, because the church seeks to secure and protect the church through social and political acquiescence. It does not necessarily defend Christianity and certainly not the United States of America. Augustine (340-430) first advanced the idea that the Bible rather than the church is the ultimate religious authority, just as we might look at the Constitution rather than the Supreme Court as the ultimate legal authority.

78 Dead As Guinea Struggles To Contain Ebola Outbreak

guinea

Guinea’s President Alpha Conde has warned of a “health emergency” as authorities raced to contain a spiraling Ebola epidemic that has killed 78 people and prompted neighboring Senegal to close its border.

Guinea’s health ministry said that 122 “suspicious cases” of viral hemorrhagic fever, including 78 deaths, had been registered.

President Conde said his country was facing a “health emergency” but that “thanks to the international community, all measures have been taken to effectively fight this epidemic.”
